Just bought 1972 Jimmy Half Cab

i just bought this Jimmy... Did they make a factory half cab for the Jimmy or Blazer in 1972? Or is this an aftermarket cab? The cab has a steel divider at the bottom. I've attached a couple pictures or the truck and one of the inside of the cab.

Welcome! Aftermarket definitely. Any chance you can post more pics? Don't see those too often. What are your plans for the K5? Pete

Re: Just bought 1972 Jimmy Half Cab

Thanks, I've been driving myself crazy trying to figure it out! I had found this one thread on a different forum but it had a lot of hearsay: "The guy I got my MREs from today said he has a 1972 Chevy Blazer Factory Hardtop Half Cab. Ive never seen one. He said their are only a couple left. He said the Military and some Fire Dept. had some. He knows of only 2. One is in a musuem and the other was lovered and is a show truck. He is going to send me pics, But I thought I would ask here. Anybody even heard of these. I think it is a blazer with a hardtop that stops behind the front seats. He said it is like a truck though. Solid body."
Anyway the topic never got resolved on the thread but I figured y'all would know on here. So thanks.

Anyway... more about the truck: It's a 4 speed, with a 402, factory AC but no compressor, has tilt steering (which I can tell the column was taken from an automatic). Dash is uncut. I haven't had a chance to clean her up much. I just drove her 400 miles. I was surprised by her ability to keep highway speeds. I definitely hit 80mph or a little better. I normally collect, sell, trade early Bronco's as a hobby and a lot of those do not like highway speeds. I have a '72 Blazer too that is pretty badass. I thought it would be cool to have '72 Jimmy and '72 Blazer in the driveway. I haven't had a chance to clean her up much. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

Re: Just bought 1972 Jimmy Half Cab

This is my other K5 that is sitting next to the Jimmy. It has a ton of cool motor and mechanical upgrades. It's a solid body but the body work that was done on it was definitely done by an amateur and the paint job looks like it was hand painted but it has a cool soft top. I'm probably only keeping one of them.... Running out of room in my driveway, haha.

Re: Just bought 1972 Jimmy Half Cab

I would be interested in seeing more pics of the divider. The factory assembly manual depicts such a thing so there is a chance that part came from the factory.

Re: Just bought 1972 Jimmy Half Cab

That's interesting. I don't have the factory assembly manual. That would be cool if that part was from the factory. The divider was the part that had me thinking it could be factory because it just fits so well and looks like it belongs there. Of course it is snowing today but I got a few more pictures. It's tough to get all that dirt out of there.....

OrangeK5, is that one of your trucks. That thing is awesome! Thanks for all the research. That is pretty cool. I think my half might be missing the latches....

Re: Just bought 1972 Jimmy Half Cab

Where would be a good/best place to get body panels? The Jimmy is kinda making my '72 Blazer look a little shabby in the driveway. She needs a small amount of body work and a tailgate, rocker boxes, etc... She is good mechanically.

I'm also thinking about trying to add AC to the Jimmy since it is an AC truck but I'd be adding it to 402 big block instead of a 302. Where is the best place to get stuff like that?

Yours looks like it is in great shape. What do you think she is worth? I'm worried that mine might be to good for me to keep & abuse but I do kinda love this truck...

IDK. I paid over 5K for mine 12 years ago so what ever someone is willing to pay. these trucks are also priced based on where they are located.

Re: Just bought 1972 Jimmy Half Cab

I had one that someone grafted together form a full top. Didn't have space for it so sold it and kept my full top. It didn't have the divider bulkhead but a guy paid 250 bucks for it. I found it at a junkyard for 10 bucks. They are it there but getting yards to find. No one really wants to give them up. I needed the space for my kids to go wheeling with me so I didn't keep it.
