Re: 1961 Chevy Apache My Beater

More FUN with the 61! Saturday Morning Deluxe Customs, A local shop had a swap and shine. So me and the wifey took the 61 over to check it out. On the way home we went by the Arizona Model A Club swapmeet. Next we headed to the Gilbert Farmers market followed by the Riparian preserve. Lastly we hit the grocery store before we returned home. The weather was Great mid 70’s! We put 72 miles on the Beater during our adventure Saturday morning.

Re: 1961 Chevy Apache My Beater

Sunday morning helped a Buddy on his VW project. He was able to drive it for the first time. Naturally the 61 was there to carry tools I brought and used the truck to go grab some gas before we could test drive the VW.

Re: 1961 Chevy Apache My Beater

Very cool pickup! I plan on doing the front disc/drop spindle and new coils eventually on my 1960 Apache, as well as getting the gas tank out of the cab soon. I look forward to watching this thread.

Re: 1961 Chevy Apache My Beater

Update!!
New shoes.
Changed to 5 lug front rotors. Also had them drilled for 5 x 4.75 Chevy car pattern. Front wheels are 15 x 5” wide.
I am going to need to swap the rear end so I can run the 15 x 8.5” rear wheels

New rear tires today mounted on black steelies. Steelies temporarily until I can swap rear end. Feels great to drive my 61. BEATER again.

Re: 1961 Chevy Apache My Beater

Change is constant.

These are toys, so make us happy.

Looking at the old wheels again, and the new, I love the new wheels (happy to fit a set to either of my trucks) but I think I prefer the previous look, it was just soooo slick, blending into the paint and a lifetime of use.

Looking forward to seeing the rears fitted.

Was out in the Blazer last night, and also loved it.

Jeff,

1) Sharp Truck!
2) Can you explain what you mean (I know, self explanatory) about having a local guy buff side walls to expose entire whitewall? I have never seen that before.
3) I want that hood for my 63!!!

Yes white letter tires and thin whitewall tires have more white under the black sidewall. Here is a pic. His machine he is sitting on spins truck wheel. He has a “grinder” that shaves tire. Smells like burnouts when he does it...Bonus!! PS I suck at typing. Feel free to call me Jeff 480 329 0328. AZ time

My dad had a 60 at one time, the hood had already been changed out when he bought it. At the time I thought it was a good thing. Changed my mind quite awhile ago too, funny how that 60-61 hood grows on you till you realize it's the coolest.

Oh, I definitely like the 60/61 cat eye hood better. I was just talking BS!

I have been looking for a good clean one for a few months now. I even paid for one from a guy in Alabama who shows me photos but hasn't sent it in over a month - not sure if it is a scam or not, but it looks to be.

But anyways, I love this thread seeing his truck out and about!!
