Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

Thanks joedoh and Jim, I always reuse the crossmember. There are many questions and talk throughs, but the boy’s really are doing a fine job! Thank God I did that S10 swap thread before the accident! My boys refer to that daily!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

here is an FYI ,

When I purchased my transmission from a local junk yard, the guy gave me a cross member to go with it, he said that it came from a full sized GM pick up from the 90's. I took it , thinking I probably wont use it because I was going to use your method that you had posted in your 'How To' thread, of cutting the S10 crossmember,

The cross member he gave me was a perfect fit to the S10 frame, I could not believe it.

I just welded angle iron to the inside of the frame, drilled 4 holes in the angle iron to match the crossmember, and I was done.

Thanks again for your instruction, always helpful

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

That works, unfortunately we can’t all be lucky enough to receive a free full-size crossmember. Good job on using what was available!

Once we had verified that we were satisfied with cab placement we burned in the stands. The final pic is of our wheel selection.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

Everything looks awesome as usual Sarge. Are you putting a carb on the 5.3 or keeping the efi? I have a 5.3 also so I am curious to see what others are doing.

Driveline reinstalled, cab is back on. We’ll spend the rest of the week lining up body panels. And next week French the headlights, repair the roof, and try to get it in color.
