The straight pipes will not hurt the valves. But it will sound terrible & be real loud. Put a pair of long glasspack mufflers on it. It will have a nice mellow sound & will not hardly increase the back pressure.

I agree, straight pipes sound like crap, even with tail pipes all the way to the back bumper, length of pipe and the bends add to the back pressure a small amount.

Glass packs or Magnaflows.... The only way to go.

Your neighbors will thank you and the police will not hassle you near as much if you put some good free flow mufflers on there and it will make your truck sound so much better. The valve float comes from a equation if too many RPM or a valve spring being weakened by time or some other happenstance.
The exhaust has nothing to do with valve float if you don't over rev the motor you have nothing to worry about. Jim

Re: Straight Pipe 350 SBC 375hp

smooth bends are not a problem with 375HP. Now, if you were building something with 700HP or running a steady 7000RPM then you would have reason for concern.

Look at the new Corvette. No straight pipes on that. And it has real mufflers instead of tiny glass packs
