Re: Wide tires

Fleetside... assuming you have stock rear axle...8x15 275x15 or 10x15 if you roll the inside fender bead.....

I have a tubbed stepside, but your fleetside may actually have a bit more room on the outside. 15x12 with a 325/50/15 et street. The backspacing is at 8.5"

Re: Wide tires

Most rim shops don't like backspace that large, you usually have to ask, but I have seen them up to 9.5" of BS. That would be nuts to me. 8.5 is really pushing it, and (at least with a steel sectioned wheel) narrows the center of the barrel, so brake clearance become very tight. A big part of fitment is the tire choice, if you want to run a non-radial, you might want a bit more clearance. The ET street radials I run have surprisingly little "bow" out under the weight of the truck. I have about 1/2" or so on the outside, and could roll the fender a bit if I needed to.
If you want to go that big, you HAVE to remove the e-brake cable from the drum. It interferes with the rim

Re: Wide tires

thanks for the info... i have found some wheels from centerline and weld with b.s. that will work but of course in 5 lug which i plan to swap axles from early classic enter. later on..i ran the mt et drags on a mustang i had and they did ok, but for the truck i was looking at bfg drags for it and yes they do balloon a bit more though and my e-brake cable is already removed...i guess i really need to take more pricise measurements and research my tire options a bit more...just wanting a good looking wheel and need that traction width!

Re: Wide tires

I'm running the stock truck rallys 15x8 with 305-50r-15's on back without any problems .. Once they are wore out I will be switching to the 275-60r15 tires ..

Re: Wide tires

Cut the rear end 4" on each side and installed new ,Moser axle's. These are 15"wide mickeys Thompson's tires on a 15 x12 rim with a 6.5 back space. Did cut the bed and use fleet side tubes in the bed.
