Question gas tank issue

I recently had my gas tank dipped in an acid bath to get the rust out and clean it all up, the sending unit, float, gasket, retaining nut, float etc. are all brand new but I cant get the fuel gauge to read the amount of gas in the tank.. i tried taking out the the sending unit and when tested manually it works but once inside the tank it does not...WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
