Re: My Facetruck thread.

I was telling a young girl in the office the other day that four years after that picture was taken I sold my first $700,000 (Todays dollars) house. Looking back, It never occurred to me I couldn't do it. I don't know if I was confident or stupid.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

When you load the little woman up in the El Camino, and head for Washington DC in July, and the blower motor on the AC quits in Columbus, OH, naturally you pull into a motel, find a shade, pull the inner fender and change it.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

My friend (the one observing) drove me to the parts store for a new fan motor. We had to change the fan as I remember it, and use a chisel to "brad" in on. That was ten years ago and it is still working. I was putting the last bolts in the inner fender. I always keep a couple of old blankets in the back of the El Camino to keep bags and tool boxes from scratching the floor.

We just got home from my sisters and need to get in bed so we can get up and go see the kids open presents tomorrow.

A friend told me that I was brave when I jacked my house up to replace the basement. I told him, “There’s a fine line between bravery and stupidity and l probably crossed it”.

I was impressed when you showed this when you did it. I bet you kept lookin' and thinkin' it through and just went for it, no matter what the nay-sayers said. I mean, this is what house movers do, right? Only they have to move the house.

How did you get the old basement material out of there?

I'm thinking about the thread he started, "How many of you have a skid loader?". I bet he borried or rented one. You know like the rest of us contractors, demo is a lot of work to get to that clean slate.

If I'm here long enough, I'm going to move my 13' x 20' pole barn over 3' to get it away from the monster Maple tree wanting to destroy it. Boy those things grow a lot in 33 years! People are telling me, "That's going to be a lot of work", as if to discourage me. It's just a big box. I'll brace across the bottom and diagonally. Just a matter of cutting the posts flush, cutting 3' of slab, and adding 3' (after new pier footers). The hardest part will be moving everything out and finding a place for it while I do this. There is an upper floor that is full of things as well.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

Here’s how it went: slid 3 l-beams in from the side to support the center of the house, excavator used his JD555 with a bucket to remove the floor (leaving 2’ around the perimeter) and the center block wall, removed the small beams and rolled in the long 2’ tall beams, cribbed those up and with the help of some friends raised the house 2’, then my excavator brought in his T300 and his mini to remove the walls. I used ICF’s for the new walls. If the old floor looks like 2 different levels, the upper level was a storage area

Re: My Facetruck thread.

Do the ICF's bear on a concrete footer. I have never worked with them. And I don't know what kind of bearing soil you have.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

The insulated concrete forms are 2 1/4” thick foam inside and out with a 8” gap in between. Yes, they sit on the footer just like regular forms, you just don’t have to remove them

Re: My Facetruck thread.

That was so interesting I think it killed the thread . I can't scroll past that and not want to keep talking about it. I've been working on my place this week and nothing is worth mentioning in comparison. I just replaced two outside corner boards... that's FOUR pieces total!!… below where I just replaced the roof on the laundry room/bathroom. I used Azek. I had them made up and painted already. All the corner boards & facia have a 3/8" bead, window & door trim has 1/8". I also ran the plumbing vent up through the walls and out the attic. And I mounted a light box over the shower and wired it up. It feels good getting some of the "things needing done" done.

Inside I'm going over the common room at the top of the steps. Painted the ceiling, paneling, and trim. That including changing the door trim around some. I have new reproduction thumb latches for the doors (3) to get them in good working order. The kids were hard on those "not so modern" door latches. Two walls are exposed log. I never put the finish on the front wall or the side wall in that corner. I should be done this week in that room. Then it's move downstairs.

I did this place over quite a while ago. Some things were rushed, left finished enough, or I just don't like how I did them. Those are the things I've been looking at for years and can't help thinking I want to change them. I'd tell myself "bigger fish to fry" and "not a priority, at least it's done". Now it's been long enough combined with thoughts of selling, and I'm motivated to get it all right and ship shape. It feels good, keeping me busy, and even if I stay a while longer I'm liking being here all the more. It's like making it mine again.

Sorry, didn’t mean to kill the thread or cause Tim to stutter. Sounds like you’re getting things in shape around your place Tim- not easy to work all day and come home and keep going

HAHA. One of my childhood friend's dad stuttered real bad. It was painful listening to him try to talk. Super nice man. But when he got mad they said he talked straight as an arrow and didn't miss a beat.
