Hey people, I have just received my vintage air system and I am looking for pictures of shaved firewalls with this setup. I have seen quite a few of them on this site but can't seem to find them again. What I remember was a finished product with a neat metal finish, not with the plastic supplied by VA. Any & all help is greatly appreciated. A 72 chevy is the project.

This is Old Air in my 67.

No AC installed yet, but you can see the shaving job I did on the firewall in this pic here, from Vtblazer's thread:

I cut out both of the non-ac holes with their support ribbing and welded in 16 guage sheet steel. I also did it for the fan duct hole.

I plan to run the hoses through the bottom of the cab instead of that spot in the FW.

For Mocwon; In your picture you have the hookup I am interested in, is it a custom unit ,factory, or did you fabricate it?

Is that what the two holes are for on the floor in the back?

If you purchased the Sure-Fit system, it is designed as a bolt in kit with the lines running through the firewall plate. If you want a smooth firewall, a universal kit like mocwon is using OR modify your evaporator and install a coil with the lines running parallel to the firewall. Which option you choose will also depend on what control panel you want to use - OEM controls, you will need to have your SFK evaporator modified. Universal system would require the use of a VA universal control panel mounted into your dash.

Not yet. It's a low hump cab and I believe it has that set back.

I am looking, I just don't see that lip on yours. I see the hump (or setback or whatever) but not the lip. It's eating me up what to do with mine

I will shoot some pis tonight, what I did was, Placed a thin paper sheet over the whole opening and traced it, then I cut it out of sheet metal and tacked in in place. I finished it with brass and sanded it smooth, for the hole that the line came through, I took a peice of 3" Iron pipe about 2.5" long and welded it in place and ran the lines through the front, I cut the holes out of the cap to let them go through.
It looks really good, but it is a lot of work, when I did this I had the cab off and on a stand, depending on what stage your in, this may not be an option.
It seems like the last time I talked to Mike at Vintage Air, when I ordered my system for my Chevelle, he said that they were working on some new blanks for this area. He said they were looking for someone to make some billit aluminum plates..But I don't know where that ended up.
I would call up there and see if they have anything, its worth the phone call before I would do all this fabricating.

It's there, just in gray primer atm.

TS looking forward to seeing your pics, I have a bare cab off the frame at the present. I called VA and the bulkhead adapters will not work with the sure-fit package I bought so they say. I don't mind the work if it looks good, thanks, John
