Re: Most prized truck related possession?

Have a three hole speed warning dash and a NOS 68 bezel with choke delete.

Re: Most prized truck related possession?

Not technically a "possession", but I wouldn't even have this truck if it wasn't for my wife. I've used it over the years by borrowing it from her father to haul vehicles and concrete pots home for projects. Best use was probably when I was building an addition on my previous house, and the yard wanted $200 to deliver the lumber. I rented a car trailer for $26, stacked the wood (4"X6"X10' girders, times a bunch), 2"X6"X18' (times 74!) and a butt-load of tubafores for studs, and top and bottom plates onto it, strapped it all down with a couple come-a-longs and dragged it home. I bet the wood weighed more than a full-sized car! I then carried it all over 125 feet into the back yard and piled it up. Then I returned the trailer. I slept good that night!

Re: Most prized truck related possession?

It didn't come with the truck but my father and my grandfather both had a 69, my father a 69 gmc stepside and my grandfather a 69 chevy 2x4 longbed like me. On all of my grandfathers trucks he had an Ashburn volunteer fire department license plate on the front. When we got his 97 gmc we found it in the toolbox. sanded it down and sprayed it with international red then hand painted the letters and boarder white. then threw it on the 97 where it stayed till the day it was wrecked. once my truck is on the road it will go on the front of the bumper.

Re: Most prized truck related possession?

My favorite item that is related to my 68 stepside (that my grandfather bought back in 68) is probably a box and its contents. This box contains a few old parts that my father bought for the truck but never used before he SOLD the truck years ago (I used the NOS parking light gaskets from it). It also contains the ORIGINAL owners manual and the buyers protection paper with the metal plate etched with my grandfathers name (same name as mine and my father).
But the most precious thing in that box is the paper with the name, address, and telephone number of the man that my father sold the truck to. This was the paper that allowed me to finally reclaim this truck to its rightful place in my family! This box also contains the ACTUAL paperwork that my father signed when he sold the truck, and some more of his papers.
I will NEVER part with this box or its contents (though I may use some of the parts contained within). One of these parts is a NOS rubber fuel neck gasket.
For the full details of this truck see my GRANDTRUCK link in my profile signature.

Re: Most prized truck related possession?

I collect dealership advertising and such and have a few gems like that tucked away but I also have a few original artwork ad proposals for magazines and print work from whoever did the advertising for GM. This is one of my larger pieces. I’m just amazed and so thankful that they were saved, it’s pretty neat knowing it’s a one of a kind thing.

Re: Most prized truck related possession?

That is the speed warning. Mine came probably all from one truck ,3 hole speed warning with choke delete or the buddy buckets [truck also came with a set of utility buckets and a new take off GMC tailgate. Also on the list would be two tach vac dashes then my two tach dashes. and extra set of buckets and a couple of tilts. I plan on building like 7 of these and been gathering parts for a while. I have been working on body parts at my shop during slow times I have three or four trucks worth of sheet metal primed and body work done. That makes the truck builds go faster

Re: Most prized truck related possession?

There was a local Chevrolet dealership that’s long gone but it had the same name as my Mom’s maiden name. I got a couple plate frames from the son of a salesman there. New ones he found in his dads garage. Put one on my ‘57 Belair and the other will probably go on my ‘68 Suburban.

Re: Most prized truck related possession?

Old post
I have several OE period correct upgrades to my old 67.
Today I found my 2nd set of shoulder harness belts. Im not sure if 67's came with retainers for the shoulder belts but I put a set of NOS one on anyway.
Upgraded the dash to Minder,Tach,Vac,Throttle, Choke delete. Upgrade steering wheel.
I would consider my whole truck my prized possession.

My greatest possession is the key that starts the truck.

Re: Most prized truck related possession?

I have the warranty card that came with my 1972 Cheyenne Super. I believe they are called “protecto plate” or something like that. How it survived through all the years and owners is nothing short of a miracle!

Re: Most prized truck related possession?

I'd have to say my grill guard. Is not a gm unit or anything. But I never see any with one around here. I've seen only one other with one in person. There just not to common.

Re: Most prized truck related possession?

I would have to say the Factory Tach and Bezel I found WAY off in the corner of this yard I used to go to.
It’s in my truck, and will be there, till the day I leave this life. Then my son will continue on.
The other prized possession is,the ignition key
