Well Happy Veterans Day To Me - NOT!

someone just charged $881.38 to my credit union ATM card at a Home Depot in the next town over, just great, and my bank is closed today on the account of the Holiday, this is just great, that is a lot of money to just be gone like that

sorry I am just venting and warning you all to keep an eye on your bank statements

but I swear those idiots would call me every time I wanted to buy something legitimate for like $45 bucks and ask are you sure about this transaction, and then they allow this to happen!!!

Sorry it happened but I wouldn't write it off as a loss because of the holiday. Contact your card issuer tomorrow, they should be able to remedy the situation.

Not only that but it will be a record of you reporting it. The card company will like that. Don't worry that happened to me too. Call the card company ASAP and report it also. Don't wait.

thanks, so I was able to track down this number 1 (800) VISA-911 if anyone else comes across something like this, I called them and they were able to block my credit card and will be contacting my Credit Union, which I like to support as they are the little guy, but they prove themselves useless on a wider scale, but there is no way I will join Wells Fargo again, ha ha

oh by the way this VISA department said they have no visibility into my transactions so I need to speak to my Credit Union to see where the transaction took place, in the store or online, and what was purchased, so we shall see, fingers crossed and expectations super low

I just realized that the notice I received came at 2:00 am this morning so the transaction happened yesterday 11/11 so maybe they did it online, who knows

the Home Depoter I spoke to sounded like this never happened before and needed me to lead the conversation as to what she should do, since I called them at 7:00 am she said she will have her Supervisor call me when she comes in at 8:30 am. I said fair enough and proceeded to Hold My Breath, lol

well it's noon now and no call, so I recon I will shoot them a follow up call and see what they will say

Re: Well Happy Veterans Day To Me - NOT!

I had my data compromised first by the US Army and then by the school district I currently work for, so I have fraud protection on all my cards. It catches most things, but not everything. The downside is that I end up replacing my cards every few months because some clown somewhere tries using it and I the fraud protections shuts it down.

Follow up with your credit union; they should be able to reverse the charge.

Re: Well Happy Veterans Day To Me - NOT!

Since you said they were local, I wonder if this is what happened to you:

Credit card cloning, or "skimming" as it is sometimes called, is a technique whereby someone obtains your credit card details, copies them onto a bogus card and begins using the credit card. While credit card theft itself is not new, the manner in which the information is stolen is still not clear to many people.

A lot of time they put their "skimmer" on gas pumps.

Happened here in Moose Jaw too, a few years ago. Skimmers were on the payment machines at the movie theatre.

Really? they bought gift cards. Once the credit card company cancels the transaction they are useless. The cards are all coded and tracked.

Re: Well Happy Veterans Day To Me - NOT!

Everywhere I go around here there are signs that say "Gift cards can not be purchased at self checkouts" Guess this is why.

Interesting it would be nice if there were some sort of alerts that made a tag or note on the camera survailance tapes at the time a fraudulent gift card was attempted for payment, however I doubt it, as they always go with the we have bigger fish to fry excuse

I know right, I thought you can't even buy gift cards on credit, so WTH? well this was a Debit/VISA combo card that pulls right out of my checking account, couple things to share with you

a while back my wife and I decided to split up our finances into three accounts

1. main joint account (to pay all monthly bills only, no online purchases etc)
2. her personal account
3. my personal account (this is the one that was compromised) thank god

I strongly suggest you married dudes do this, it not only helps hide our Truck parts purchases from the Finance Minister, ha ha, it cuts the big money pie into smaller pieces and limits the damages if something like this happens

Re: Well Happy Veterans Day To Me - NOT!

Good to hear things worked out for you.

I also use the intensive fraud security measure. It is a down right pain sometimes. I booked a vacation to Costa Rica on Tuesday. I tried to pay off the amount charged today and they said the charge was still pending. Pending? 5 days for an electronic transfer? They said it’s part of my fraud protection where unusual charges are held for up to a week to ensure no fraud was happening. Sigh....

I have a separate credit card for online purchases. Limit is low, only $500. I just preload it for larger purchases. No longer have a wife to question things
