Inthuwind, sorry to confuse, I thought that was what I had read. I'm learning as I go on this project myself!

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

As sb406 said, the caprice rear is narrower than the stock 12 bolt by about an inch or so. I have a 95 Impala SS, and I had a 95 Caprice 9C1 (police). I put the Caprice frame under the Impala (it was totalled) and learned that the Caprice disc rear is 30mm narrower than the SS rear. The SS wheels and tires fit the Caprice with no clearance issues, but they sit out further on the SS. I looked in the service manual and got the dimensions. The wagon rear is even wider yet. If anyone needs, I can get pics of the setup on my 95 SS or the rear dimensions out of the service manual.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

For whoever is interested, I will have about 10 sets of brackets for the Caprice calipers/12 bolt truck rearend ready by around the end of this week. They are made from A527 Grade 50 steel, and are laser cut to perfection! They will come unfinished (I can powdercoat black or chrome-like for a small cost) and will include mounting hardware (nuts, bolts, washers). I'll post an update when they are all ready to go.

Bob has spent some time on these things making sure they are correct and professional looking, I myself am buying a set from him as soon as they come in.

I am under the impression that they will, but I can't truly confirm or deny until I can get one in hand.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

Just an FYI, the Camaro calipers won't work in place of Caprice calipers from what I'm seeing. The measurements (from the drawing) for caliper bolt spacing of the impala/caprice caliper was ~3 1/32 inches and the 93-97 Camaro calipers measure in at ~3 7/8

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

I picked up a set of the impala ss rear rotors today at Napa. They look like a direct fit. If anyone wants measurements on them I have a set in my hands.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

You mightbe able to have a good machine shop redrill the Impala rotors for 6 lugs.

To The Top. It is just something to fill a post to bring a thread to the top of the list. When a thread has a new reply, it get's bumped "to the top" of the thread list.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

just to keep this thing at the top, I will post on the setup I am going to try to make work...

I will be using rear disc brakes form a 1979 Cadillac Seville. The rotors are CHEAP (i got mine fore $16.95 each for premium ones) and are 5 on 5 lug patter with 1/2" wheel studs... I will have to have the axles wheel mounting flange machined down a little to fit inside the rotor had (less than .200" over all)

The calipers are GM metric with the integral parking brake... I need to either fabricate or find the e-brake lever and the e-barke cable stop on the caliper.

The last order of business I have to take care of is measure for some brackets and put them into CAD and have some cut out. If they work out well I may try to put a kit together and sell it or have all the parts available individually...

The greatest expense of this kit was the CORE charge on the calipers ($85.00 EACH) but the cost of the calipers were $110 for BOTH and $34 for both rotors so not too bad so far...
