Here's an interesting stylizing. I don't like the modified lines on the rest of the truck, but the tailgate area looks pretty good.

This might be an insult to somebody who did that much work.........

But the tail-end on that early 60's one sure does remind me of a Corvair van I'm somewhat ashamed to say I once drove.

Found a place that has some door skins at a reasonable price (I'm a little worried that the price was "too reasonable"... we'll see when they arrive).

Got my hands on some half door skins. These are shorter than the full skins, and so don't have the roll nearer to the top that I was trying to work in. However, I think these might work with a little modification of the original plan.

One more. Looks like I need to ditch the rolled pan and sink my tailights in the door skins near the bottom.

I like the Belair emblem idea. I'd say definitely ditch the pan though. Doesn't look right hanging down in the PS and the door skins are long enough. I've always thought the rollpans that hang down below the fenders on 67-72 stepsides make it look like it's got a load in it's pants anyway... Looks like the door skins will line right up as far as the lower line in concerned. Sweet idea!

I sure agree there. I've been looking at roll pans to find something that is even with the fender bottoms. The longer ones are easy to modify though. I'm undecided on tail lights. Saw some '50 Pontiacs frenched into the fenders and '46 Chevys frenched into the pan. I have a neat idea for a different tail gate emblem on a flat panel. I also like the idea of putting something tasteful on there instead of leaving it a large plain area.

I agree it breaks up that large open space, but an emblem (or any sharp visual cue) is antithetical to the whole theme of the vehicle... being very shaved. I'm thinking that if I roll a piece of sheetmetal to fill the gap in the pics above that has a curve similar to the top roll in the door, it will give me more shape there to break up the space.

Some small progress made, but the digicam is dead.

I need some input on taillight ideas. I like the 12 x .75 slits that are in the rolled pan... and they match the 4 x .75 ambers in the front bumper, but I'm wondering what other taillight options might look good. If you've got suggestions (and pics), please post. Note: late model 'Vette or Caddy are out of the question!

Keep it smoooooth... and the cab corner patches are cheap. That would finish it off.

I saw a pic somewhere of 70-71 Camaro tails frenched in the rear of the fenders. Can't seem to find it now. Best I've seen on a stepper. Don't think it really fits your theme though.

I think you're right. I think I need to French in a license plate (as tight as possible, like the yellow truck above), and then just transplant the 12" x .75" taillights I have in the rolled pan now.

Very interesting. It's a clean truck but the featureless rear end treatment is too plain. It needs some sort of detail in my opinion.

I saw an article in Hot Rod (I think) where they molded in a third brake light lens then taped it off for the primer stage.Then they untaped it and sprayed the color coat over it with the rest of the body. The lens was not visible on the back of the cab until you stepped on the brake.Then the light lit up red due to the translucency of the top coat. I wonder if that's what is going on with this yellow truck's tail lights?
