Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs

Man, you guys have posted up some nice cars and builds, both old and new. I love looking at the older builds because those guys really had to work at being creative. Not that folks aren't creative today, but they are not picking their stuff from junk yards a lot of the time.

One thing that stands out is the true style built into these cars from the factory. Sure, there was always profit in mind but there was an emphasis of style as well.

While I appreciate the work on the slammed and crazy paint cars I much prefer (for me personally) the subtle and understated look like the blue car in Speical K's post #290. I like stuff you can roll into a garage, cover it for 20 years, and when you roll it back out every part and even the paint is still cool and never goes out of fashion.

That blue 50 club coupe is a real looker. Like others I like the CC more than the sedans in those years.

I've always liked that body style of this Ford truck. No matter how you modify them they look good.Even in stock form they are nice trucks.

Thunderbirds were very nice vehicles.I have always wondered why you don't see as much of them as other full size Ford and Gm vehicles from that era.

Yeah, the '58-'66 T-Birds were factory custom cars the way I see them. Personal luxury class with total emphasis on styling throughout. They are reproportioned like the owner-built customs were. The Riviera was GMs first response to that new category, and they nailed it!

The Buick riveria was way better looking than any Ford made in the sixties.

Agreed. I do like the '61-63 T-Bird, but not as much as the 63-65 Riviera.

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs

I’ve always wanted a 65 Riviera.

The only thing I see that I don’t like about that 39-40 model is they changed up the headlights which I think is one of the best looking pieces on those models to me.

There it is. It got touched again with changes for this era

Talkin' about early era right here. Very very well executed and a super fine example of the beginnings of car customizing. And talk about classic. This styling has stood the test of time. I wouldn't change a thing

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs

That Rod Action magazine cover in Richards72 post brought back some memories. The line on the cover stating V8 swaps for Datsun and Toyota pickups reminded me my father had a Datsun for a while with a small block chevy in it. He was a notorious horse trader and always had something he was trading or working a trade on. Came home from college one weekend and saw this red Datsun that had a "different" stance to it. Asked pops about it and he said "let's go take it for a spin."

Holy crap, what a death trap! I was rolling 100 mph very quickly with way too much throttle left untapped. Turns out it had the small block under the hood and the front suspension and rear end out of an early 70's nova. It was all done really well but the thing was way too quick for its size. He said he had been taking teenagers money on the weekends in pickup drag races. Yep, that was my dad.
