My 66 C-10 LWB full PB "Blackout"

Hey guys,

Figured I had waited long enough to start this thread. The platform is a 66 C-10 LWB SBW. To be honest I got this truck to help with all my home depot trips. I am always workin on the house, or in the yard and wanted to build a fun truck to help. The plan was never loose bed space but my nature of wanting everything on the ground got the better hand. Here it is when I brought her home.

Before I even touched the truck it had it's first photo shoot

First order of business I put in a call to the boys at Porterbuilt, ordered the full kit, Accuair system, rack & pinion, front and back disc brakes ect. They are very helpful.

I think this forum is a great tool, I have learned most of everything about these trucks right here

I look forward to sharing my build with you all, and getting your feedback.

First item on the list was removing the sheet metal bed. A buddy of mine has an awesome 63 c-10 he came over to blast through a few beers and grinder discs with me.

Re: My 66 C-10 LWB full PB "Blackout"

PB parts came in Wed/TH so I have been having a good time..

No joking these products are metal art. I sat there unpacking them just jaw dropped. Now I am going to bug nate to make parts for my 69 Cadillac.

Here is some of the paint process I am using. Again the purpose of this truck is not for show, I plan to use this truck a lot, beat it up, drag it and ENJOY

I used All Rustoleom product from my local Home Depot (my second home)

for the frame I took it down the bare metal and followed it with alcohol, primer, and their bed liner rattle can, came out great.

For the cross members/bridge, same process but used the Metallic "Dark Steel" Universal Rustoleom

For the undercarriage I am again taking to bare metal, primer, then rustoleoms "Undercoat" follow by the bed liner.

Now I wil finish up the Carrier bearing x-member when it finishes drying, then i am stuck till I get my axles back from the machine shop..

Re: My 66 C-10 LWB full PB "Blackout"

Spent Th/Fri painting and Managed to knock this out on Saterday and had a few more hours to paint sunday morning.

Gonna work on getting the carrier bearing X-member area cleaned up tonight will prime and paint then install.

Jesse's Idea for paint has turned out great so far. Prep work was not bad just 320 grit followed by 400 grit and alcohol, then prim and paint.

Love the look of the metallic paint with the bedliner on the frame rails.

Since I plan on using the truck, I am tinkering with the Idea of using Line-X for my paint job.. It is durable, dent resistant, spray it down with a hose and its clean ....mmm

Your getting the idea.. I am far from the point of final assembly but I have some awesome plans for the finished product some along those lines. I plan on trying to incorporate the new LED off-road lights. The main purpose is for the truck to be a great reliable truck I can use and drive daily if wanted. But I don't want to worry about or have problems similar to my past customs. So I am trying to build a very durable truck, fuel injected modern motor, and to upgrade the interior to have many more creature comforts.. I save all the good details for when i get there

I finally got my axles back today and got those back in the housing. Also removed the old factory U-bolt brackets. Just need to grind it all down flush then paint. I should have some more updates and pics after the weekend and have the rear end finished up.

Here is some photos of my old truck and other current project so you get a little more idea of my cars. The avalanche was my first truck I worked my ass off and dumped stupid $$ into it and got burned by a few shops in town. After that i told myself I can build anything just need to do the research so thats what I have been trying. I never finished that truck and ended up selling it. The other is my 69 caddy deville. (my personal favorite car ever!) It got to boot and was thrown is the backyard when i decided to build the 66.

Thanks for checking in guys

I personally like the small back window, helps me escape the sun here.

..Ordered the brake booster and MC today went with one from CPP w the polished MC.

I made the mistake of removing the perches on axle housing
So I moved to the front and put a call into nate. I still have a few more peices to finish painting and should be throwing them on this weekend

Re: My 66 C-10 LWB full PB "Blackout"

Been working on the front this weekend, a buddy of mine was an iron worker he came over to help install the notches and teach me how to weld. Got the notches in, inner supports, upper hats & steering rack and pinion. Will be out of town this week for work. When I get back I should have the new perches from nate to finish up the rear, and get the upper and lowers mounted along with the new spindles and new disc brakes. Project is coming along.

Thanks Tony! Not yet, still deciding on final colors, picking parts for interior ect. The downfall to it is if I want to repaint it, or get sick of it. once you spray the whole car your stuck with it.
