Re: Hooker 68-72 big block Chevelle headers fit my 69 C10

I have a 4" - 4" drop with a big block on factory small block springs. The collector flanges are 2-1/2" off the street. I'll post some pics tomorrow...If you plan on using your truck for a daily driver, these long tubes wont last. I have metal inserts in my springs up front as well as a half coil cut off the bottoms. Its stiffer than the 2" drop springs. I did that to clear the 30" BFG 60's I had at that time. I have 5" wide, 28" Mickey T's on it now and added the big block that squatted the front even more. But this truck see's an occasional drag strip, street races and shows and not alot of miles of uncharted street. 4" drop is the borderline for long tube headers in my opinion.

I actually have 4-1/2" inches of clearance... Have a happy and safe weekend everybody! Off to "Greaserama!"

Re: Hooker 68-72 big block Chevelle headers fit my 69 C10

I realize this is an old thread but curious if anyone has used a lokar cable or rod with a column shifted automatic? I like the idea of having more ground clearance with the chevelle headers but I'd also like to keep my shifter on the column. Anyone?? -Brian

Bosshogg69 would your Hedman headers work with a stock trans brace? do the collectors come back the same distance, looking at the pic on the hedman web site the drivers side looks to be longer. I want to use chevelle headers if they will fit up with a custom exhaust and stock brace. this is what I have now. I have no idea what kind they are or what they are for but the length is great but the drivers side front tube is not right cause the PO had to cut WAY to much of the engine stand

These headers work with the OE trans crossmember and you dont have to cut anything. They also clear the auto-trans shift linkage as well... Best bang for the buck! Amazon.com: Hedman 69110 Chevy Pu 2 & 4Wd Big... Amazon.com: Hedman 69110 Chevy Pu 2 & 4Wd Big... ...If your dead set on "Chevelle headers" then I have a brand new set of ceramic painted long tubes that will clear the mounts for $200 shipped...PM me if you want them.~Ghostrider~

Thats cool because the 110's are a long tube header that hang way down...Do you have a part number we can log for future use?

I was in a hurry to make a local car show and needed headers fast so I opted for a set of Hedman 69110's...They're long tube and hang down, but not as far as the Hookers and the Hedmans line right up with the openings in the cross member. If you have Amazon "Prime" then you can have them on your door step in 48 hours..."Win,win!" Amazon.com: Hedman 69110 Chevy Pu 2 & 4Wd Big Bloc: Automotive
The description on Amazon says they will not fit with a sway bar. Can you comment on that?

My BBC 72 C-10 has the sway bar and like Captain indicated, not even close. They fit like a dream and my 396 is sitting in the front holes on 71 BB stands with small block mounts bolted to the motor...I've got pics somewhere, I'll post them up if I can find them.

From '67-72 2" "truck" headers to these 2" "Chevelle" headers is a savings of ~$200, the added ground clearance is a bonus. Much-appreciated on the insight! Thank you!

I already had purchased a set of Hedman Elite headers for 67-up trucks (#69820), but the hung down WAY low. Below is a pic of the truck headers on the drivers side and the chevelle headers on the pass side. BIG difference in ground clearance, since my truck is lowered. The truck headers hung down even with the bottom of the lower a-arm... The chevelle headers are dead even with the bottom of the frame rail.
BossHogg69 this is by far the best header thread I've seen especially with your pictures of both headers mounted. I chose the Hedman headers because of your detailed explanation and am waiting to get them so we can mock them up and build my 3" stainless steel system. Well done!
