Upgrading carburetor on 250 I6?

I have a 69 c10 with bone stock 250 inline six with 3 speed manual transmission. I am having a lot of problems with my mono jet rochester which was recently rebuilt and am wanting to upgrade to a new (not remanufactured) holley or edlebrock etc. What all will I need to adapt a new 2 barrel to my intake and what is the best carb for my set up? Will be just a weekend truck and the engine will not be modified..... for now

I have used the holley 2 barrels. Worked well and made for a slight improvement. I used a trans-adapt two down to 1 barrel adapter.

According to Tom Langdon at stovebolt.com the weber 32/36 carb. Give him a call. I'm going to watch this thread to see what others recommend as I have the same question too.

Re: Upgrading carburetor on 250 I6?

I have been fighting with my monojet for too long and I finally have to admit defeat. I never had a Quadrajet give me this much trouble. I bought a NOS Holly Economaster on ebay and plan to install it today. There were a lot of them for sale last year when I bought mine. By tonight I should be very happy or very pissed. I will let you know how it works.

Re: Upgrading carburetor on 250 I6?

The Monojet is a decent carb when set right. Pretty happy with mine. One thing to watch for is warpage of the float bowl housing, particularly if the carb has been built a few times. Inspection upon dissassembly for external leaks or across gaskets will be your indicator. If your unit has the black composite float replace it. They can get saturated over time and won't 'float' properly. Brass floats can still be had for $10. And do not forget the often over-looked middle gasket. Turn the carb upside down you will see two phillips head bolts. Remove them, replace the gasket & make sure they are tight.

I bought a reman monojet for my 84's 292 and it seems to be fine. Got it from Autozone and I can't remember the price off hand.

Re: Upgrading carburetor on 250 I6?

I got the Weber 32/36 Progressive from Tom Langdon. Haven't driven it yet but sitting in the driveway straight out of the box it was a huge improvement! Idle is now smooth and I love the electric choke. I still have to tune it further but I do like it much more than the old Rochester. The Weber is a bit of different creature to tune but Tom Langdon is very helpful. Like you I wanted something "new" and not an endlessly rebuilt unit designed in the late 60's. Good luck.

Re: Upgrading carburetor on 250 I6?

The Holly Economaster works great. My monojet has never worked that great since 1981. It was driveable back then but after sitting 20 years it had problems. I rebuilt it, but could never figure out the power valve linkage bs. It would start and idle like a champ and screamed pretty good at wide open but everything in between was missing and bucking. Oh well, I already admitted defeat and won't waste another minute thinking about it.

Those Enomomaster kits are kind of vehicle specific and include everything needed for the installation. I was impressed with all the linkage rods, studs and gaskets that were included and did not have to go to the parts store once. I didn't even have to adjust anything and it runs perfect. I may try some tinkering later on. It may be the best $100 I have spent on this vehicle.

Re: Upgrading carburetor on 250 I6?

I bought mine( 1 barrel Rochester) from O'riely's for @150.00 and it works great. I'm going to buy another one when I receive my 2 carb offy manifold that's on backorder.

Will do TJ. Called SW about the manifold today. I ordered it on 6-18-15 online and they said backordered till 7-4-15. Looked online today and now BO till 10-15-15. Hopefully mine will show up sooner. The three carb manifold is available but not the 2 carb.

Who is SW? Sorry not familiar. lol Summit Racing should have them available without being on back order. If its not to late to cancel your order I'd call summit and see how quickly they can get one to you. They have the triple one to I believe.

Speedway and yes I will call Summit because I had no luck finding the 2 carb manifold on their web site.

Re: Upgrading carburetor on 250 I6?

Go with a 4 barrel intake and don't look back.

I have a 4 barrel offy and I like it because it gives me options. If I want to run F.A.S.T later on it can be done easily. If I want to run a 2 barrel or 3 barrel it can be done with a simple adapter through these guys.
http://vintagespeed.com/

Don't limit yourself. Cancel your order and get a 4 barrel intake.

Run a Holley 4 barrel. 390 CFM and Langston cast iron headers!
