Mufflers for '59 Apache

At that point in the project. Motor is running, all wiring seems to be correct, looking to see what y'all are running for mufflers. Looking for something that is on the quiet but deep sound, make sense? Thanks, Kel

Re: Mufflers for '59 Apache

Outside of paint color and wheel/tire choice I'd say the exhaust sound is one of the more personal choice things on a vehicle no matter what it is.

I like just about what you are wanting. I have turbos on my 71 GMC that sounded great with the 350 I had in it. Not loud except they did talk when you laid into it.

I'm going with longer Porter glass packs on the 292 on my 48 this time because I want the six cylinder though glass packs sound. Engine will have a 4 barrel and set of Tom Langdon's cast manifold/headers. That's my choice for this truck because I want a certain sound.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

I used Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flows and full 2.5" exhaust. Mild big block..

Swapped out my glass packs (just too much noise, even with sound insulation) went with MagnaFlow XL mufflers. Great sound with a deep rumble, but we can hear ourselves think at freeway speeds.

Re: Mufflers for '59 Apache

I'm running a 3" flowmaster 50 series three chamber. I didn't want anything loud and certainly not raspy. Initially I was a little disappointed as it was a little louder than I wanted. With that said, after driving it around for the past few months, it's just right and am complimented on the sound of the exhaust.

Dynomax Super Turbos, quiet at low rpms with a nice rumble at higher rpms.

These with 2.5 pipe size, longest available. Nice lope at idle, have not driven it over 10 mph so can't say how they will sound at speed. I think these are 28" long, previous ones were only around 20" and 2" pipe size.

Re: Mufflers for '59 Apache

are you running the exhaust out back, that makes a huge difference, but my choice is 2 1/2" exhaust with flowmaster 40 series. Got em on 2 BBC's and love the sound. I did hear Magnaflows online and they sounded great to.
