Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

to anyone running a holley on thier six. What do you use for a throttle cable? I've never been able to figure out how to adjust mine to get WOT. My 70 has been coverted to the later style (71&2 I think) gas pedal where it's not mounted to the floor.

On my '68 C/10 w/292 and a 4 Bbl Edelbrock 1404 500 CFM Performer, I converted to the '72 GM gas pedal connected to a Lokar style cable -- out the firewall, right turn behind the valve cover, back over the valve cover and onto a throttle cable bracket by Jeg's but like the Holley HLY-20-112. I had to cut off the last 7/8ths to avoid hitting the valve cover. Carb is side saddle [compared to a V8 set up], with the primaries outboard.
When I had the Holley 4160 R8007 390 CFM, I cut off the bottom of the carb throttle lever, since I had a 4-speed didn't need the kickdown and it was hitting the Offy intake. I also had a lot more fun -- and no take-off stumble--when I added a 50cc accelerator pump. I ran the 390 for 24 years, but after 500 miles of break-in on the new 292, the Holley just wouldn't stay set up. Rather than get a new throttle plate, I decided to get an AFB clone. Easier for me to tune myself.
As fas as the throttle cable, I don't remember the brand or the P/N, but I think I started at about 32" and cut it down from there. To get more pull on the cable, shorten it up under the gas pedal and you should be closer to WOT.
Hope this helps.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

68, thanks once again for the help. You've helped me out several times on problems mine has. I'll check the pedal and see if the cable can be adjusted there. One day I'll make mine look as nice as others here.

Hey, does anyone have a close up pick of the choke and throttle cable on a 230. I have a '64 C-10 that is missing the brackets.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

Stock 250 from my 67, with power brakes, 390 Holley, Pertronix, T5 5speed, etc etc

I've got a pile of PS parts, but won't install till I can find a way to make the box clear the bumper bracket..

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

Here's a pic of the 250 that's grumbling under the hood of my '66 GMC

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna keep it unless I upgrade to a 292.

Just gotta spruce it up a bit.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

Driving to Alaska in a '67 C10 with a stocker 250, 3-speed manual, and a 3.08 rear we got 18 mpg. That's with a spare mounted to the roof of the cap.

With the 4-barrel it varies from 12 to 18 depending on how heavy your foot is...

Since all the 6 cyl guru's seem to lurk here,I'll ask this question.Which 6 cyl headers are reasonably priced and miss the clutch linkage and 3 on the tree linkage?I will be waiting to do this for a while if I have to buy new.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

Oh, oh, I have an inline 6, can I play too?? I realize mine is slightly different. It is turbocharged though, and intercooled and fuel injected, and it has six valve covers instead of one and is a bit bigger, but it is an inline six.

Is that there air cleaner the kind you soak in tranny fluid every 10,000 miles?

Hee hee. No. It's just the "heavy duty" air filter element in the stock air cleaner housing.

It's good for 30 hp and 10 mpg.
