1967 GMC 4X4 Long Box Build

So I've finally decided to make a build page. I've been working on this truck since last October and have taken a few pictures along the way so I'll post what I have now and update them as I go. The truck itself is one of the first 67's to roll off the assembly line. The serial # is in the teens. It is also a factory V8 (VIN KE1590DXXXXXXX) which almost all of the 67 4X4's were the V6 version. I have an original 67 GMC sales brochure that doesn't even list a V8 as an option. The original engine was long gone so it took me a while to find a block correct for the truck. I ended up finding a 327 after a very long search and it it being machined right now. So I guess now I'll just start posting the few pictures I have and go from there.

This is what I started with.

Re: 1967 GMC 4X4 Long Box Build

Here's a picture after I had the frame sandblasted. The aqua truck in the background is where I'm getting the grille, fenders, and box from. I ended up pulling the axles and changed all the bearings and seals in the differential and axle shafts as well as the front axle U-Joints and hub bearings. Someone took out the manual lockouts at one point as slugged them so they were full time 4X4 and not in very good shape. I also took apart all the leaf springs and painted both sides and painted the chassis satin black with KBS Paints chassis coater. The paint looks pretty dull because it got sprinkled on the day after I painted it outside then started collecting dust on it. The next couple pictures show the front end after I reassembled it.

Re: 1967 GMC 4X4 Long Box Build

I didn't get any good before pictures of the cab but here's the progress I've made on the sheet metal work. I put in both front supports along with the entire rear support cross member. Them rear floor patches, kick panels, front pillars, inner and outer rockers, and cab corners. Took me about 2 weeks to do it all and the next one I think will be a full floor pan. Making all the cuts is a little too time consuming for me.

Re: 1967 GMC 4X4 Long Box Build

I haven't made a lot of progress lately but here's a couple pictures of my dash. I am adding A/C and decided to cut my dash rather than replace it with a factory air dash. I got an air dash thrown in with a bunch of parts I bought so I cut it up to use as a template.

Re: 1967 GMC 4X4 Long Box Build

Got my buddy buckets stripped down to the frame. They're being powder coated next week along with the frame and about 50 other random parts both interior and engine compartment. Grille support, brackets, pulleys, etc.

Re: 1967 GMC 4X4 Long Box Build

Not much progress lately since I farm for a living and I've been putting in a lot of hours working lately. I did tear the wood floor out of the box and had the cross rails sandblasted. I primed and under coated them yesterday and will get pics of that.

Re: 1967 GMC 4X4 Long Box Build

Also got the 327 back from the machine shop. Got the bottom end put together this morning. Hopefully get the top end put together this weekend so I can get it painted and set back on the frame.

Re: 1967 GMC 4X4 Long Box Build

I was checking out your restoration it looks like youve done agreat job i have a question for you if you dont mind i am currently doing same thing to a 72 k10 swb i noticed the panels you replaced on floor that the rocker panels marry up to at the weather stripping mine is rusted through there too iv got the inner and outer rocker panels and cab corners already but didnt realize that the floor was in need of repair untill last weekend i was afraid that i would have to buy complete floor pan and cut it up for those panels i was wondering if they sell those panels like u have or how did u get them? I have LMC and RayBuck books but not sure which piece in the books that i need or if their even in there i am inexperienced in all this since this is first build and their seems to be cpl panels that might be what i need i just dont know what they call the pieces im looking for and want to make sure i get the right pieces can u help me identify the edges of floor pan with correct name or part number? Or do i have to cut them out of complete floor pan? Of corse i want to avoid that if possible since panel is 400 bucks with 125:doller shipping fee any help would be greatly appreciated user name is brianb41 thanks

Re: 1967 GMC 4X4 Long Box Build

I believe what you're looking for is item #6 in this picture. It would be part # 38-7904 and 38-7905.

Project is moving along and looking great Jeremy , which vendor did you get your spring and shackle bushings. Read some members had fitting issues with some vendors. Getting ready to replace mine on a 68 being the same wide springs of a 67.
Thanks for the help Richard

I bought them from LMC before I knew any better. They're ok but a couple of them didn't fit as tight as I would like them to. I know Brothers sells them and possibly Classic Industries which would both be closer to you. I used the rubber bushings so I have no real insights on the polyurethane ones.

And the tranny and transfer case. This was a LOT harder that I was expecting. Took me about 3 hours to get it lined up right but I'm glad it's finally done!
