Thanks. I actually worked on it a little this evening before I took the ‘72 to get my haircut. Then took the long way home since it is incredibly nice out tonight.

I went with these. Couldn’t beat them for the price. Got the polished in 20x8.5 and 10s in the rear. Currently plans are going with a 255/35/20 up front and either a 305 or 315 in the rear. I’m shooting for the 315s.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

Those wheels look good! I hope you've narrowed that rearend and are adding tubs inside the bed. Forgive me if you've already done this, or said you are... it's been a while since you've updated. I have 295's on the back of my fleetside on 10" wide wheels and there's clearance. A 305 might fit, but a 315 would be TIGHT. I know there's more room on a fleetside than a stepside too, but I don't have any idea how different they are. I just know I've read stepsides are hard to get 10" wheels in the fenders.

I'm sure you've done your homework though. It'll look killer when you're done.

Yeah the rear is still a challenge which is one reason I haven’t bought tires yet. With a stepside I don’t think 295s will fit stock. I have always planned to add fleetside wheel tubs to the bed. I want to see what kind of clearance I have with the 71-72 rearend first. I’m planning on new posi, gears and axles so swapping for an earlier rearend is an option. I really don’t want to narrow the only for the fact it’ll get me wanting a 12” wheel again with an even wider tire.

I’m trying to keep my budget in check and loved this wheel at the price point.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

Spent a little bit of time last night stripping the cab of odds and ends. I also took a look at the stepside fenders and there appears to be a decent size lip that can either be ground down or rolled.

I was looking at a buddy's truck over the weekend with the same wheels but with a 295 rear tire. There appears to be about 1/2" between the sidewall and fender lip. Judging by Nitto's website there is about a 3/4" width difference (I actually thought they would be wider) between a 295 and 315. So basic math and the fact I can get a little more clearance on the fender lip I should be good with 71-72 rearend.

Now I'm still waiting on my wheels to come in.

Love this thread! Keep up the good work! Out of curiosity, how big is your shop you're working in?

Thanks for the shop info. You have it laid out very nicely, I would have guessed it was bigger.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

Well the shop got a whole lot smaller. while surfing FB Marketplace I ran across an add for C10 parts. Long story short, I ran down to southern KY this weekend and picked up about as rust-free, 67 long bed as you are going to find in this area. The cab and doors are pretty amazing. The hood and fenders have dents in them but kind of gives it character. Overall a HUGE score for Laymond. Goal now is to swap the cab and doghouse onto my short bed chassis. I hope I can find someone to match the stepside bed to the original color.

The truck is a 1967 longbed base C10 with stainless trim, a foam seat and the helper springs in the rear. It’s was a 1-owner truck until a kid a few months ago tore it down and got overwhelmed. It’s been a farm truck all it’s life, 44k miles, and been sitting in a barn for the last 30-years. It’s almost a shame to part it out but it’ll be a nice addition to the stepper. I’ve seriously thought about cutting down the longbed but I’d rather have a stepside.

I’ll get more pics one I get it cleaned up.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

Decided to take the day off and get to cleaning the new truck. Nothing is more fun than getting rid of 30 years worth of critter nests. Oh there is one thing, thinking you grabbed a hold of a live snake when you go and pull a shed out of crevice. Fortunately it was just caught on something.

I’m beyond stoked with the condition of everything. I have a few small patches but nothing compared to my other cab. Cleaned the front end and passenger door with #000 steel wool and CLR. I’m pleased with the results.

Pics posted sideways. I’ll post pics later.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

Quick little wash with #000 steel wool and diluted CLR on the door and corner of cab. Those are the original rockers and cab corners.

Fenders and hood got the same treatment

Cool shot with Chester

While cleaning up the garage today I couldn’t help but hang the fenders and put in the grill. I’m really liking where this is going.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

Got the garage all cleaned up in preparation of the StreetGrip install on my ‘72 this weekend. Had a buddy swing by and help me put the bed back on the truck. First time it’s been on in 4-years. Now I can get a few things ironed out in the back like my air compressor mounting and battery box location.

To be honest I had been thinking about selling this truck due to liking the ‘72 so much and I’ve been really itching for another Iroc. However being out in the garage and around the truck has giving me a little more motivation to finish it, then buy another Iroc.

My ‘88 350 Iroc circa 1996.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

Well my wheels finally came in. A buddy of mine owns a shop and got a deal on a large wheel order. Downside was a set or two where custom sets and my wheels didn't ship until last week. Pretty stoked with these.

However.... I'm starting to think they might look good on Chester. I'm never going to get this truck done

Very nice! I need that bed. I'm looking for a nice original red '67 stepside bed. Lofty goal I know.
