Here is a pic of the new redesigned Impala SS caliper brackets. The hardware is the same as before so I didn't include that in the new pic.

Sorry but no I don't have any pics other than what I've posted. I have hinted to a few customers about posting pics, but so far no one has that I'm aware of.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Shot in the dark here, but do you know if they will fit an 8.2 10 bolt from a Chevelle? If not could you give me some dimensions like the offset of the SS rotors, how thick they are at the wheel mounting surface and the distance from the backing plate flange to the axle flange on the 12 bolt rear end?

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

No these brackets won't work on a 8.2 passenger car 10 bolt. The axle tube flange has a different bolt pattern and the Impala SS rotors won't fit since they are a 5 x 5 bolt pattern and the 10 bolt you have is 5 x 4.750 Of course you could drill some holes and they might work, but I don't know if the calipers and rotors would line up on the 8.2 10 bolt.

I'll have to look up those dimensions and get back to you.

Thanks. I'm going to have my axles redrlled to 5x5 to match the front, just hoping I wouldn't have to do rotors too.

From the inside of the hat to the inside surface is about 2.090"

That varies from 2.437" to 2.500" depending on how the gears are setup. The bolt pattern on the axle tube flange is 2.625" vertically and 3.375 horizontally.

The car housing end bolt pattern is 3-1/8" apart on the top, 2-11/16" apart on the bottom and the sets are 2-7/16" apart top to bottom.

If the hole in the middle of the bracket is small enough you could just redrill the plate for a dual bolt pattern so it fits cars and trucks.

As of right now I am out of these. I've been busy on a new brake conversion, so I haven't ordered any more of these just yet. If need be I can get more parts for these in 2 days.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

As far as I know they do. Tell you what, I have a '90 as well, so let me verify that they are going to work before I go and sell you a set. I should be able to determine that tomorrow.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Sorry I didn't get around to pulling a wheel off and checking that out. I will do that either tomorrow or Saturday. You won't be able to use S10 calipers on these brackets. They will only accept the '94-'96 Impala SS/Caprice rear calipers.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

To install these on a 63 12 bolt I would just need to redrill my axles (i have 6 lug now) and grind the rotor a little to allow it to seat on the axle? Rest is bolt on?

Would someone that has done this share with us what they spent on the rest of the parts needed?

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Yes you would need to convert to the 5 x 5" bolt pattern on your axles. I don't think you would need to 'grind' on your axles. The one thing you need to check though, is the '63 12 bolts had pressed on backing plates. So without the typical backing plate flange, you can't bolt on anything. I would check yours though. It may be a late '63 or it may have been changed at one time.

The most expensive part of this conversion is buying the rebuilt calipers. Loaded ones are around $125 ea. plus the core charge. you can sometimes find good used ones locally, on ebay, or on car-part.com

I'm planning on developing a 6 lug rear disc conversion in the near future if that helps you any.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

ah crap I think I have the pressed on backing plates. I didn't even think about that. Was thinking about going 5 lug so I could run some old school wheels like cragars or supremes. Might have to just do what I was thinking of doing which is drill the axles for 5 lug and get 5 lug drums from ECE

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Hmm so thats the kicker..you have to use Impala calipers..Ill read through this thread to see what brake hoses are needed or if I can just get some made at the local hydraulic hose shop..If the rear ends on the other trucks are the same they should work just fine but I can wait for your word thanks again

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Well bad news.....these will not work on a '88 and up rear end. I thought they would, but the bolt holes on the axle tube flange are different and the distance from the axle tube flange to the axle flange is more than the '87 and earlier rear ends. Good thing I checked.

If there was enough interest I could design a set for the '88 and up rear ends.

The 88-up rear is a popular upgrade for the square body trucks since it moves the rear wheels out so they are closer to the track width the front have stock.

The modified brackets should sell well to the new body style trucks and to the square body guys who have retrofit their trucks with the newer rear end too.

You shouldn't have a problem selling the revised brackets.
