Re: Anyone know chevelle/elko parts?

We did a frame off on this one for the kids. They started having kids of their own while we were building it, so the wife and I have put most of the miles on it.

We drove it to the Canadian border, the gulf coast several times, Des Moines several times, and Washington DC.

Re: Anyone know chevelle/elko parts?

I still have my Flame Orange 72 SS small block Elky . I drove it recently to my buddys bodyshop and he had a lady customer that fell in love with mine .She told me she was going to buy my Elky and she was not used to being told no . You should have seen the look on her face when I said NO ,its not for sale .She said I will get my husband to call you and get you to sell it .I told her he could not buy any better than she could ,not for sale .

It's a 71. The nose was bent when I got it. It had been parked in the garage for 17 years. It had 95,000 on the odometer. I had it drivable in a few days. I like 70 so I converted the front fenders to 70. Added the 70 rad support, grill etc.. it's now a 70 in appearance. I've been waiting for the 307 to die but at 139,000 it's still going strong.

Nice, I love driving mine. I've added power disc brakes which makes it nice. I have been refusing to add power steering. It keeps my kids from asking to borrow it.

Re: Anyone know chevelle/elko parts?

I've had this Burnt Orange 71 SS454 for 30 years. A friend of mine bought it new. It has tilt, tach, posi, gauges, Cowl Induction, AM/FM stereo etc.

It has never been off the frame, but it's so clean underneath, it looks like it has.

Re: Anyone know chevelle/elko parts?

I took a red, matching numbers, 1970, SS 396 apart in 1980, and it still sits that way in the shed.

Re: Anyone know chevelle/elko parts?

It's a very low mile Chevelle.

I'm not sure why I never got around to it. It had a spun rod bearing, we pulled the front cap and engine, in about 1982 and the project just died.

Every time I restore a car I say I'm doing that Chevelle next, and it just don't happen.

It's loaded with options and would be an easy build if I would just do it.

I have a matching numbers, red 69 SS 396 sitting right next to it that I have had since around 1990. It needs to be restored too, but I got sidetracked on these trucks.

69-70 are my favorite Chevelle/Elco models. And you can't go wrong with red. But Larry, at our age we only have just so much time left on this earth. We're running out of time!

I was telling my wife about a car the other day, and then I said "I'm not buying any more cars" and she said "I never thought I would hear you say that".

I'll keep building as long as I feel good. I get up every morning and go to the shop just like it was a job.

It was my car in high school and I had a lot of fun in it. The cops called my fun "trouble", imagine that... I've been waiting for them to forget but that hasn't happened. Whenthey have contact with my kids they say "we know your pop and it's a given that you're this way".....lol....So it's at the back of my list.
