Emergency Park Brake Question

When I got my 58 it was all pretty much dismantled and now I'm slowly piecing it back together.

I have found these parts (first pic) which are all under body bits (except the lever rod). I thought that went to some sort of pivot point in the engine bay (that I dont have) and somehow that connected to the cable???.

I was lucky enough to look at one the other day but his is already modified (i think). he has a rosejoint at the handle end and some fancy connector at the firewall (pics 2 and 3). is that joint normal or does anyone know what it's off????

he did away with the pivot an incab hard rod and as I have nothing ild like to try replicate that if possible

your trying to mix old with new, chances are you don't have the stock cables from the rearend either
that bracket you have mounts on the x-member behind the cab and splits into the 2 rearend cables
look at what ididit has for parking brake cables and go from there

i gave up after looking, truk hasn't had a p brake for 10 yrs

fyi this is where the bracket you have mounts on the x-member

It is most likely prudent to forget the original pieces, get the correct cables for the new rear axle and go from there using a later model pedal and cable or a hand lever.

If these are the stock 58' drum cables I do. I also have the stock 86 C4 disc cables which I planned on using c-clip cable connectors to lengthen to get to the factory position (that u show on your pic)

I also think I'm missing a bracket off that support. I only have 1.

As per above. I have the C4 Corvette rear cables from the inner drum setup they ran. Just wanted to sort something before the exhaust got fitted . was thinking possible a cross over system like the novas and camaros ran

In regards to your original parts, the big rod goes from the brake lever in the cab to the pivot assembly mounted along the frame rail. The cable goes through a pulley along inside the frame rail to the bracket it's attached to. That bar slides inside the slotted bracket that comes off the left frame rail. Here's what the factory assembly manual shows. I highlighted the components.

looks like I'm missing the pivot point and one of the two brackets on the middle bar, the smaller one that acts as the pivot.

guess it's time to get inventive...

Ok here's what I'm doing , I have a Currie 9" with drum brakes . I plane to run the rear cables forward to the center along the stock lines where they will attach to the stock lever .

Because the front cable has broken several times because in my opinion it's to small , I plan to use the Ididit cable system from the handle in the cab to the center lever system .

Here is a picture of the stock center stuff I cut out of another chassis .

Also 3 pic's from the web of what someone made to replace the missing center stuff .

that's pretty much what I was thinking of doing. any chance you could get a side on pic of the pivot bracket on the right side in your first pic and a length. Definitely missing that piece... looks like it bolts on?

on the upside, while I was searching the scrap metal pile for it I think I found the front pivot that the ebrake rod connects too. still think ild rather go straight cable to the factory splitter.

Hello QB. Just this year I finally got my E-brake system back together. I had to make a lot of the parts that were missing. In your first picture it looks like that only two parts are missing for the front or under the cab part of the system. The bellcrank and the clevis that joins cable ball end to the bellcrank.
I had to "get inventive" to make it all work. If you are interested look at my build starting at post 408. There is not very much online that shows how to build or restore the E-brake system on these old trucks. I like the "get inventive" part of these old trucks.
I haven't posted in awhile so I had to find my thread. Its on page 5 of the project & builds. Just another old truck. Clarance J.

Looks like you found the big part that you needed. Very good. Just need the little clevis to make the first part of the system complete.

I remember why I tossed that bracket in the metal bin now....

kind of cant run it anymore with the C4 Front end.... red circle in image is where it is meant to mount....

Back to an ididit or lokar for the front cable to splitter I guess....

Thanks for the help so far, not like I can just shoot down the road to the local salvage yard to check them out. still pretty rare over here in NZ

maybe keep this link for the assembly manual handy. good info on how it was made originally.
on my original frame I had planned on using a foot operated park brake unit from a chevy s10. it would cover up the footwell vent though. the cable would exit the floor/firewall below the unit. the connecting parts between there and the rear would be easy enough to fab with your skills.

I made this document when I repaired the parking brake on my '55. I cut the threaded shaft of the new cable to match the original so it functioned. You might be able to move the bell crank back, or down to clear the modifications.
