What is the benefit of running the wire through a relay?

so this article is just to convert your existing alternator to a one wire set up right? so if im planning on buying a new alternator i can just buy the one wire one and hook it up no problem?

gabet40, yes this covers the conversion. The reason for the post however is that many people have asked what to do after the conversion. What wire size, what to do with the old wires and how to run it. This article also covers those questions. Yes you can buy one and just put it on if you like. I took my old one to a local alternator rebuilder and he converted it for me for $10.00 parts and labor. I could not buy one for that price. Or you can buy the parts and save some this way. Good luck

Nu272 and 68 Suburban,
Many, many thanks for your work on this one. I just bought a new chrome 1 wire and this will make the installation a snap. Kudos to both of you.
