Point of no return.......
Productive weekend. Motor is out and will start cleaning up the frame and wires. Aired out, the truck was so low that I couldn't get under it on common ramps. Built my own, to get where we need to be. Plan to mock up the motor this weekend to see how low the OEM pan hangs, then go from there.

Happy Turkey day all! Spent this time off cleaning up the frame/ firewall and got them painted. Decided to get a new oil pan that its shallower and is set up for the turbo drain already. While waiting for that to come in, painted the alt bracket and mocked it up. Once the pan comes in, I can start getting this thing back together.

Another productive weekend! Was able to swap the oil pan, get the flywheel/ clutch/ trans together and got her installed. Used TSP Low clearance pan for the swap. This is very similar to Holley's pan, but around $100 cheaper and has provisions for a turbo drain. The pickup tube did have some burs left from cutting at the factory that I had to push in through the screen to get it out. Also the Windage tray had to be modified for the tube to fit and the pan to sit flush. Cut it back to the first bump down in the tray. Did find a note form the previous owner when i opened the pan up

Here are some pics of her in place. Used ARP for pretty much everything. I know I use the word "Budget" a lot, but then find myself spending hundreds of dollars on bolts .

Sometimes you have to spend some dollars. Spend them in the right places.

Decided to get some sensors changed out while I still have access to them. Also modified the Plenum back to its original position with my custom jigs I think this thing is going to fit under the hood! Did find some space issues with the valve covers I want to run. Very close to brake master booster, so will have to modify.

I made the mistake of not replacing my sensors when the engine was out. Lot less fun to do once everything is connected and in the truck. Did you get the crank sensor while you where there?

More plenum work. Pulled out the Dremel and did some more carving. Plan is to paint the same battleship gray at the block with black stars and stripes. Maybe center stripe red?

Thanks guys, here is the finished product. Overall happy with how it turned out. Went with a distressed look and now has an X Wing fighter from Star Wars vibe.

Happy NEW Year! Started my new year off by re-engineering Edelbrock's SBC valve cover adaptor. With their set up, the coils are bunched together and the plug wires are bent really tight. Also there is nowhere for an oil fill. Started by cutting off the OEM fill and laying out how I wanted everything positioned. I originally tried to weld the ring on, but I ended up warping it with the heat ( Still learning TIG! ). Ended up using a high heat style of JB weld. Made a plate to mount the coils, which will allow me to use Edelbrock's mounting positions and add space to tuck the wiring harness in. Aluminum was from an old sign, so it looked like "Forged in Fire" when I melted the reflective coating off. With everything mocked up, the valve covers still fit!

Some more pics...... Drilled/ Tapped both covers to allow 10an to 3/8 NPT fittings, to eventually run to a catch can. Also made up some baffles and opened up the wire ports. Found these were also very tight during mockup.

Slow going.......Getting back into the hour here, hour there routine. Was able to get the covers/ coils set up installed. SBC cover is snug in there, but it fits! Mocked one of the headers and it looks like I will have to install some heat shield on the cover.

How did you even get that valve cover on there? Did you cut the back out of it by the firewall? That is a tight fit.

I did. By cutting the back out, I'm able to slide it back and drop it into place. Still working on modifying them, will upload some pics.

And we're plumbing..... Some pics of the catch can installed and heater core lines. This side of the engine bay is going to be tight. Wanted to dictate where the lines are run and not have them flopping around in there. Made up some brackets to keep everything in place.

Throttle cable time! Cable is not long enough and didn't what it laying across the plenum. No matter how I set it up I knew it would have to be custom. Decided to flip the throttle body upside down to keep everything on the drivers side. After fabbing the bracket up, the cable just had enough room between the alternator. I figured that the cable had to be lever, but that was not the case. After testing the peddle I was not able to get to full throttle. Will have to modify to raise the bracket up on an angle and see where we are at. Here is the first failed attempt.
