Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Are you referring to just the spacers or the adapter plates?

I wouldn't say that it changes the geometry, it just moves the steering box to the left 1/4". That can be compensated for during a front end alignment. No they do not have to be stitch welded, I just prefer to. It just eliminates one part that can move around.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Also in need of one for a 68 4x4. The previous owner hacked some holes and I keep breaking steering box bolts! I even keep a ratchet and socket to check the bolts daily.

Please shoot me a PM and I'll get you some dinero and an address.

Thanks,
Andrew

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I'm working on a 68 GMC C10 with my son and I'm putting suspension and steering from an 87 2wd suburban. I think I need one of your adapter kits for the steering box. Now I'm not sure what I need. I see in post #66 you say the 67 and 68 just need 1/4 inch spacers. Let me know what I need to do. Also the rag joint part/adapter. Thank you. Scott

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

got my second cap'n fab plate mounted, this one on a 64 4X4.such a beautiful piece, its a shame to paint it... my next one gets clear coated!

A tip or trick, I don't know if this has been mentioned: 1 new hole falls partially over an old one, you guys know how impossible it is to drill out 1/2 a hole...
so what I did was drill the other 3 holes, bolt the plate to the frame, and then use the plate as a guide to drill out the oblong hole.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

ok got a question I am putting the steering box out of my 87 4x4 blazer on my 65 4x4 frame getting rid of the original power steering it dont work well and the box leaks do I need a plate like yours to mount the newer box? I am assuming that the spacers you got on here make up for the dip in the newer frames? and does it line up with original holes in the frame or will I have to drill all new ones? thanks oh and how much for the plate? thank you

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Yes, you will need an adapter plate to mount the '87 box onto the '65 frame. I do not know all the specifics on the 4x4 frames, as no one has given me any feedback on those. However on the 2wd's, the adapter plate comes with a template to locate the new holes you will need to drill. One hole is partially overlapping an existing hole as Jon mentioned above. For the guys installing these on a 4x4 frame I include another measurement and 3 pics, in addition to the standard installation instructions. The price is still the same as in post #1...........which is $55.00.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Hey Capt. I need plates for a 1965, please send me all the info.

also I got a 73-78 front suspension and it has the 1 inch rotors is this the most desired model or is the 1 1/4 rotor the most popular? I plan on installing drop spindles.

thank you,

Greg

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

In my opinion, the 1-1/4" rotors are more desireable. I do not know if anyone makes dropped spindles for the 1" rotors. You may have to get the dropped spindles for the 1-1/4" rotors and buy new rotors and calipers. New rotors should be around $40.00 each and calipers $20.00 each.

I'm sending you a PM with payment info.

Have you got a map with push-pins showing where you've shipped? You've sure touched a lot of trucks out there. Nice work!

No, I haven't done anything like that. Most of my sales have been all over the US and Canada. I believe I have just one sale in Australia. Thanks for the compliment
