PLEASE HELP! Just got a van tilt - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi. (Working on1968 C-10) I am not having any luck finding the right answers... I'm desperate I have a show and shine this weekend and I got stuck at how do I get this van tilt column to fit in my 68 C-10
The only joint is the rag joint. Someone please help what do I need to complete this swap? Or am I SCREWED. Sorry for begging but that what it's come down to.. here's some pix of what I have going on...

No pics? Is it to long, if so I believe guys are knocking out the plastic rivets and collapsing the shaft to make it shorter. There are threads explaining how to modify a van tilt. Try and do a search with Google and hit the 67-72 only button. Nate

Yes, you have to collapse the steering shaft to get the van column to fit. Some times you may need to heat the shaft to get the nylon hot so you can slide the shaft. I also cut a new notch farther up on my column to get more room in between the dash and seat. That requires more collapsing of the steering shaft too.

In 66 the shaft might still be solid from the wheel to the rag joint. Sorry to BS but I'm more 67+.
The van tilt is longer than the truck tile by ~4.25 or 4 inches. If the 66 has a multi-shaft column you should be able to cut down the intermediate shaft but simply collapsing it negates the purpose. The purpose is not to impale you on the steering column in the event of a head on crash.
With more people driving while playing phone and the increase in face to face crashes, you may not want to be impaled.
If as you say the only joint is the rag joint, you need a van/truck column spline end to rag joint but from a 67-72 or 73-7? truck/van. The 67-7? ones have a funky U-joint bit by the column end up by the MC.
