Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

Frames done... Just gotta get the rest of the suspension parts Im re-using and the rear end and trail arms done and I can start putting stuff together to get it to a roller so I can roll it outside and get to the engine and body stuff. This was a big step and by not just sending it out to be blasted was quite the job. But I dont have anything to haul with and my time never lines up with my friends who have trucks or with places I could have taken it to... so

Its not really that I cant get enough friends to come and help.. its more of I have friends that dont know squat about cars and trucks and just dont give a flip about them lol. This is pretty much a solo adventure. I was talking about the friend or two I have that have trucks that could haul big stuff for me. Sucks either way. Oh.. and Thanks

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

Not gonna get much done this weekend since the Father-n-law passed away last night. I also have a 760 mile haul for tomorrow that will be pushing the limits of time But at least the front suspension parts are all clean and waiting on the new coating. The engine and tranny have been separated and the engine is now on the stand where it will live for a while. Im afraid to even start taking that apart after seeing some of the things Ive seen on the rest of the truck... I just Know Im gonna be re-doing the whole damn thing.

More pics wont come until I have something put back together.

Sorry to hear about the passing.

Cost - Whatever you think it's gonna take multiply by 2. Often that ain't even enough. Gotta love previous owners sometimes.

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

Front end going back together.
I'm am worried that the 3 inch springs may cause me some headaches since I didn't even have to compress them to get the spindles on and they are loose in their seats with no load on them.

Did you guys using 2 inch springs have this issue when installing them?

More parts coming next week. I hope to have steering linkage, disks and calipers mounted then.

Few pics...

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

Small issue with the wheels fitting with the 2-1/2" drop CPP spindles...
Cant get the tie rod end in the hole..... Looks like I wont be able to use my existing wheels after all... not enought clearance... I was hoping I wouldnt be buying wheels and tires until I wore out the ones I just bough before I did the tear down.

Is the tie rod wrong size or what? In the pic with your hand in it you are installing from bottom. Should install down with nut on bottom.

Yeah I realized what i was doing today. I dont know why I thought the went in from the bottom. Its all good and everything fits just fine. Should get my center link this week and will be able to get the linkage in. Ill move to the rear end next.

You gonna be able to get anything done this week? Gonna be a nice week.

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

Well the entire front end except shocks is installed, cotter pins and grease fittings and all lubed up with the steering box and ready to roll.

I think next Ill work on getting some new trail arms. I already have everything else for the rear suspension.

After that Ill work on the rear disk conversion and running brake lines on the frame and to the corners.

Anyone know off hand what front shocks I need with the 5 1/2 inch drop?

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

just been cleaning this up and painted it black. It has about 20k miles on it so Im gonna put a new timing set in it and go ahead an put a high volume oil pump in. It should serve me well for a little while until I figure out what to build next. This is pushing close to 400 hp.

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

Pitty party time...
I'm 45 years old and thought I knew some things about building, but as I get into this I'm finding its becoming quite the challenge for me as Im trying to do this alone. Not having the help from any friends or having very deep pockets to have things done for me, I'm starting to have a hard time seeing how this will get done.... or at least the way I would like to have it done. Im finding I have to settle for going the cheaper route on damn near everything I've done so far and this is just not going to be the special truck I had hoped it would be. It will be a nice clean truck, just not very different.

I haven't been able to click the "Buy Now" button for about a month because of the slow work through the winter so not much is getting done right now and every time I walk out to the garage I end up just staring at the mess or just fiddling around for a bit and walking back in the house with my tail between my legs.

My hats off to you "True Builder Guys"

Hang in there ,you will make it .I had to sacrifice one of my wife's cars to be able to build my truck the way I wanted it .I farmed most of mine out as I had little time and little know how on a lot of it .

Stick with it. Long projects can beat you down physically and mentally. Try to remain sane.

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

I here ya possmguts. my old quadrajet finally gave up on me just after Christmas. I got a gently used holley 750cfm carb and the $75 worth of part to put it on, and I haven't been further than around the block. I just keep telling myself to hang in there and it will come back together. So will go for you and the rest of us that build on these old trucks. :-)

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

I pulled the diff cover to have a look see and discovered I have ring teeth with horrible pitting. Im guessing from sitting forever maybe?

Was planning to do an Eaton Posi setup anyway so I added the gears to the list.

Found a couple bucks and hit the button on a set of 3.73 ring and pinion gears, an Eaton Torque Control unit and a Wilwood rear disk conversion kit.

Now we sit and wait for the mail man....
