Cruise control accelerates then kicks off

Hey Guys

My 1997 C1500 when you push the accelerate button the engine rpm increases the stops Cruise goes off. When you try to set the speed sometimes works sometimes doesn’t any ideas easy fix or ????

Could be the control box under the dash. I had some inconsistencies with mine and swapped it out with a junkyard box. Problem solved.

Really only two things I can see going wrong here, either the stalk/lever is sending bad info to the controller, or the controller box is bad. The lever can be a beast to replace on the 97-99 GMT400s. I would probably try to replace the controller box first. If you need it, I have a spare stalk I'd let go of at least 10-20% cheaper than anywhere else. It's not OEM, but it's made by Standard, which is (rumored to be) a manufacturer of some of GM's parts.

Could also be the brake swich. Thares two. One for the brake lights and one for the cruise.

Right, it might be just an adjustment that's needed. When the cruise is working see how much you have to push the brake pedal before it disengages. It might be right on the hairy edge.
