The gauges are autometer antique, one of them is a quadmeter...
I also stained and put a couple of coats of polyurethane on it. I am in the middle of rewiring the truck, hence the wires everywhere.. |

Did you get your fender straightened out, you might need to lower your inner fender where it mounts to firewall. Looks like it needs to drop down lower for fender to line up..

Making a little progress on the truck... if you haven't read the EUREKA thread about the weatherstripping from a Honda civic they are not kidding! I bought some online, it was delivered in two weeks and installed in 10 minutes with NO paint removing glue. Awesome! The weatherstripping is on the passenger door, I don't know how well you can see it.

I'm still working on the wiring, and have found a couple of good tricks. Positive and negative bus terminals! It will really clean up your installation and it makes diagnosing problems easier. For example, all the grounds under the dash go to a bus bar which goes to the negative battery cable via a larger diameter wire.

You can also do the same thing with the positive wires. Here I used an insulated post... I will post another picture when I am finished with the wiring.

I've been too busy lately with other projects. I never did get the fenders to line up right. I'm just going to take it all back apart and start over.

So I have the fenders removed, I drained the radiator which did have a good bit of rust in the water, and then I removed the upper radiator hose and saw this stuff! Kind of soapy and might have prohibited the thermostat from opening? Anybody know what it is?

Nice truck and nice work on it. I'm not sure what that stuff is other than corrosion and maybe broken down/crystalized coolant?

Look at the size of this water pump! I don't see a harmonic balancer - so is this engine internally balanced?

Another part of this project is to get rid of the SM 420 transmission. Granny-gear 4 speed, and replace it with a modern standard transmission. One of the problems as I understand it is - how do you mate a newer standard transmission to an old GMC 305 V6?

...but what about the clutch plate, and flywheel? I just decided to ship the flywheel to the manufacturer of the conversion kit, who says they will make a copy and set me up with a workable system with a pilot bearing, clutch plate hydraulic throwout bearing...

Sorry to be jumping' back and forth, but this is the way this build is going. On installing the '82 crossmember into the '66 frame, you have to drill one hole in the frame rail and enlarge another.

I am putting a 14 bolt ff axle from an early '80s truck, and everything seems to be lining up. The leaf springs sit right on the spring perches on the axle.

I've started working on the front suspension again, I got a coil spring compressor and was able to get those installed. Now I'm trying to bolt the steering linkage/tie rods ends up, and there is an issue...
The first picture is of the '80's C20 bracket that bolts the steering hardware to the frame. The next picture shows still bolted to the frame is the '66 bracket which is oriented more or less vertically For the time being I would like to keep the '66 steering and mate it to the '80's tie rod ends, etc. |
