That's interesting about the keys. Any way you can make the bezels more vintage looking to match the cluster?

Re: La Crosse- 1960 GMC Custom

The power steering line was to long and looked out of place so I shortened it and routed it down below the pump. Also installed the return line.
Then I ran the transmission lines. The lines where a little long but compression fittings fixed that.

I thought so to. Maybe I can paint the bezels a flat black or something. They are to to shiny for the rest of the dash.

They must have fallen down the defroster vent.
And here are some pics with the gauges that we installed on the weekend. Not sure if I will keep the chrome bezels/face plates.
Did you recess these into the lower dash? From the pictures, I can't see any wires or the back part of the gauge.

They might look better, with black trim rings, if you can fit them on either side of the speedo/fuel/water temp pod. This would be easier to see/read as you drive also. You can snap & print a picture of the new gauges & tape it in place to get a better idea.

Great build, Like what you have with the truck.

Yes we recessed them into the lower dash were the cigarette lighter and throttle cable would go. I will probably remove the gauge face plates and that will probably make a big difference. I was saving the sides of the gauge pod for a tach and clock.
Thanks for the complements and ideas.

Re: La Crosse- 1960 GMC Custom

Well I have not posted in a while because we were busy working on the 67 c20. It's almost finished so I can turn the focus back to this truck.

Since the last time I posted we started up the motor and got it running good.
When we started it up we decided that we need to get rid of the fan(to dangerous with out a fan shroud) and bought two electric fans and a controller.
I installed the fans on Friday and just need to wire up the controller.

Dual cooling fans are nice, I'm doing one big single for my 66.

Yeah I would have gone with one big one but I got the two smaller ones for a better price. If I was thinking ahead I would have just bought the radiator with the fan and shroud.

Re: La Crosse- 1960 GMC Custom

Today we installed a 67-72 glass pack exhaust kit from LMC. It worked out good, just had to modify it for the headers and have to work on the rear track bar mount. Still need to install a few hangers.

Thanks
They were replaced by the previous owner when he rebuilt the brakes so I am not sure where he got them.

Re: La Crosse- 1960 GMC Custom

Update
We are almost back on the road after 10 months!
I have not posted any updates in a couple months but we slowly finished the exhaust, welding up the rear axle and panhard bar, ran all the brake lines and finished up most of the wiring.

Today we finally started it up and let it run for a while.

Re: La Crosse- 1960 GMC Custom

Then we drove it around the yard and removed the camper shell. After looking at the truck for months we decided that the camper didn't fit the truck and it looks better with out it.

I assume everything went well with the cam break in? Did those pusher fans keep the engine cool?

Yes everything went well with the engine break in. The fans turned on around 185 degrees and the engine never went above 190-195.

WOW! The last 2 months went fast with a road trip and other stuff.

About a month ago we bought a new Edelbrock 500 for it because the Holley was dumping to much fuel. The Edelbrock was an instant improvement and really helped the throttle response and reliability. It starts right up every time.
I will try and get a link to a video.

Not the best video. The electric fans are a little loud with the hood open.
