I took my '67 swb stepper for a drive, then decided it needed to be washed.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I have started the "tear down" on the 70' for paint. Here is a picture of where I am....was a complete truck this morning. Hope to have hood, fenders, doors, and cowl to the painter in the next couple of weeks. Putting in a new Radiator support next week..Happy, Happy,...Happy!!

Post Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Walked out to it @ 04:30 and lit it off , drove it to the Coffee House where I'm reading this .

I *may* have found a good '69 cab out of state , we'll see .

I'm quite sure there's plenty of decent cabs here in California but I can't seem to find any .

God , I love this old Base Model Truck ! .

Yesterday, cleaned under the cowl and in the vent area, pulled the dash and installed a new bezel and pulled the dead am/fm cassett player, installed new water pump and thermostat.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I got a little closer today.

Tightened up the oil drain bolt as I had a very slight leak. I removed all of the rubber hose connections on the fuel line and all but two connections on the charcaol vent line. I loosened the metal fuel line between the fuel pump and the carb. I also picked up my new fuel pump.

Found a full set of 8 lug steelies with tires for 50 bucks. Brought em home and cleaned them up. Maybe I'll throw them on tomorrow to replace to split wheels I have now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Scrapped out the seam sealer under the cowl on both sides just below the window, cleaned it up as good as possible, treated it with a rust converter, then re sealed them.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

No "work" today but I feel I made good progress. I asked a garage about replacing the cab mount bushings and it seems to be something I can indeed do myself assuming I can get the bolts out.

Another garage will clean out the gas tank for $50.00 but the man had his doubts as to whether or not I'll end up having to get a new tank. If I do, I just do. He can also clean the radiator but according to my description, he's pretty sure the radiator is beyond repair.

If my sending unit removal tool comes tomorrow I'll get that out and run the tank over for cleaning.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I took my gas tank over to a radiator shop and found out is was rusty! It's only surface rust and the guy is going to sandblast the inside, then use "renue" to fix it up. He's confident it will be right. Price is less than buying an aftermarket one.

I also removed my cab's floor rubber and found out that the front cab to frame bolts are welded in at the top. Dang. Now I'll have to figure that one out.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Put new Billies on it and got rid of the dual rancho redneck setup it had. All 8 shocks were trashed and I've never liked duals unless it's for desert racing and you actually need them.

Also posted the truck up on Craigslist to feel for bites and maybe trade for something more practical for my needs. Not going to post the ad here due to me not knowing the rules around here but it can be found in Austin CL. Not pushing to sell it either so I placed a pretty high price on him.
