The best rear bumper available.

I want to get the best new rear bumper that is available for the suburban.
Can someone tell me where to get a good quality bumper price is not important.

Just want to get a good bumper that does not already rust in the box.

Re: The best rear bumper available.

All the reproduced bumpers are of about the same quality which is very inferior to the originals. I think ( and I am doing this myself and have the bumper already) is to buy a used original bumper ( even a white one) and have it rechromed. That way you will get the good steel and I"m sure chroming techniques are much better today than they were in the late 60's/early 70's. Maybe someone can answer this question. Are the pickup sport bumpers the same as the Burb bumpers, because if they are it would sure be easier to find a truck bumper than a Burb bumper.

The best bumpers are the original ones, since they are made of thicker steel as far as I can tell.

Painted is easy since you can pound out any dents and clean up the spot with a little filler then paint, where the chrome ones would have to be worked on by a chrome shop to make top notch.

As far as vendors? I would start with the board vendors for sure, maybe Tim Christian since he rolls in a burb.

I used the sport bumper from a 'burb on my 69 (but I'm not sure if it originally came on the 'burb)

Re: The best rear bumper available.

I don't think re chroming is an option.
Its an insurance company who has to pay the expenses for fixing my rear bumper.

Then I think you will have to get a reproduced one from a vendor.

Re: The best rear bumper available.

I like the Goodmark bumpers. They seem to hold up pretty well for what's out there.

Re: The best rear bumper available.

There are shops that redo old bumpers. And they have some older bumpers in stock that they have done too. One in TX Rusty Metal Werks 713-398-0229 and another one in Calf called The Bumper Shop Inc. 800-831-4421
