Rare truck

Now this is special. Allegedly, this is the only one like this left in the United States. It’s one-of-a-kind but it’s not custom. There were only six of these workhorses back in 1962, and it looks nearly the same now as it did then. The differences are a new paint job, wheels, tires and other small items. This is one rare, re-tooled truck! What a beauty.

Re: Rare truck

Well, what it is would be a body works/coach works upfit from new, but not factory. It's not much at all like it was back in '62. It probably had 17.5 wheels, 8 or 10 ply blackwalls, sat up nice and proud, no car spare tire cover... It would have been rare to be a Custom trim level with that conversion. A rich rancher, maybe.

Re: Rare truck

How is that 'not custom'?

There use to be a 4 door mid 60's GM truck sitting on a Farm in southern Colorado. Looked to be in great shape. I wonder what happened to it?

Re: Rare truck

Those are rare.
I've seen them before and they often seemed to be bought/used by railway companies it seems.

That one is certainly in great shape but has been heavily customized to get it in that condition....to nice results for sure.
As soon as someone starts to alter the original elements of the truck it starts to mess with value associated with the 'rareness' factor.
Then the primary value shifts towards, like all customs...the final result.

That is a nice truck tho'...just have to love those older GMC's!!
4-doors are always super useful, practical things...and hard to get in a truck.
nicely done!

Re: Rare truck

i have seen a few in person, one of which was a 3 door and one Ex-Cab...

someone from the PNW should chime in...rail ways and lumbering companies sued them to transport works to the remote areas.

Crummy's i believe they called them.

.Yep,, I lived out there for most of my life and seen a few of them up close. The logggers and tree planters refered to vans, suburbans, and 4 door pickups as "crummies".

Re: Rare truck

The only crummies I remember seeing back then (1950s to mid-sixties) in our little town were Suburbans. Lived across the street from a logger who would drag himself out of the crummy after a day in the woods, dirty & looking totally worn out. Then head out again the next morning while it was still dark outside. That was enough to convince me that was an awful hard way to make a living.

Re: Rare truck

Yeah, most, if not all of those crew cab's were company trucks and usually got beat to crap. Just the nature of the beast I guess. They were built for work. There weren't any soccer mom's driving 4 door trucks back then. At least not where I grew up. That one's a beauty. It could take up some space in my driveway any day.

Re: Rare truck

Is it just my bad eyes or is that a Ford emblem in the ‘V’ on the side of that hood?

It's a V6 emblem. I don't know why it's blue. it's supposed to be red IIRC.
