punk learned a lesson

weather was decent on Sunday but wife still felt like crap so she told me to go ahead and get in some range time without her. So within 2 minutes I was out the driveway and headed to the range with my 1911, some other handguns, my 6.8 AR and my Savage 7mm. I was having a good time all to myself with the rifles at the 200 yard section with all the regular crowd sticking to 25 and 100. I ran about a dozen rounds through the 7mm and my shoulder needed a break for a few minutes. I was just standing there lightly massaging it and minding my own business when a couple kids in their late teens came walking over and implied I was a weakling. I said "I'm about done sighting in my new handloads and there's 8 more if you want to give it a try". I loaded in 3 rounds of my new hot loads of 175's and let him take the bench. I then told him it has a fair amount of recoil so make sure it's tight to your shoulder. He lets out a muffled "hmmph" and cheeks the stock, takes aim at my target, pauses a split second and let's it rip. I think I saw the rifle move a good 6 inches back and his "Monster Energy Drink" cap flew off. He gets up from the bench after handing me the rifle and I see his eyebrow cut and starting to bleed. His exact wording can't be posted here but it's safe to say he learned a thing or two. I asked his friend if he wanted to give it a try. " No thanks, I'll pass". They went back to the 25 yard line and left me alone for a good 30 minutes. The younger guy without a scar came back and asked just what exactly this rifle is and what I use it for. savage 7mm Rem Mag and I use it for loooong range deer hunting. "Like at 300 yards?" "No, I have places next year that shots will be in the 600 realm or more". The look on his face was priceless

It's not just the young (but it may be more prevalent). I was sighting my muzzle loader at 100 yrds and an older gent was sighting his shot gun at the 50. We use slug guns here, so it was scoped. I could see he was struggling to get it sighted and watched him do it wrong several times. I offered to help but he "knew what he was doing." I told him he was way too close to the scope and was about to get hurt. Again he "knew what he was doing." Next shot his cap flew off, followed by cussing, followed by D*** I was too close! He packed up and left to get stiches.

I have a very old 12 gauge that will knock anyone on their sit down. It has no choke whatsoever. Even as a teenager I could only fire it twice then that was enough.

Since it is an old double barrel with rabbit ear hammers, I would invite people to shoot it, then load the right barrel, show them which trigger to pull, then I would sit back and watch the fun...

I haven't shot it in over 20 years.

Ya gatta give that puppy some "breathing" room! Hold it about 2 inches away from your shoulder. That should do it.

Next trip I should bring my friend's 10 gauge side by side and see if those kids want to try it. Or the same friend has a 458 Lott. Hehehehe

when my Dad was still around he and I did a lot of Duck and Goose hunting. I had a 10 gauge double barrel Dad nick named it " Ma Bell" cause it could reach out and go long distance!

I saw a video this morning where someone who appeared to be a seasoned shooter was shooting a 4 gauge (I didn't know they existed). When that gun went off, it nearly took his shoulder off and he could not control the recoil at all. Have no idea if it was a 4 like reported, but was interesting to watch nonetheless.

a couple weeks ago a guy was on facebook looking to buy either a Savage or Remington 7mm Rem Mag. I offered mine but he wanted one with accutrigger. He said he was going to buy a new Remington instead. Then last night I find out it is the same guy whi got branded by mine. His post was trying to trade his 7mm for a .308

I had a similar experience when i take my Desert Eagle .50 to the range. Its a very loud gun so i always let the people to my left and right know im going to shoot. I ran through 7 rounds relatively fast. Set the gun down and was kind of massaging my hand when this guy said that it couldnt be that bad. I loaded the gun up and said give it a shot. He pulled the trigger once, set the gun down, apologized and then asked if he could keep the shell. LOL.

We should start a gun thread.... I want to see your 7mm. I have an 8mm mauser that i rebuilt for fun. I love that thing.

It's nothing fancy. Just a plastic stock under a Savage 110. I'm thinking of a Boyd's upgrade, thumb hole maybe. I don't have any fancy stuff, all are workers. I sold the beauty queen last summer because it looked too good to hunt with

Ya, i got the thumbhole for the mauser. So comfortable. But im left handed so its pretty useless to a lot of other shooters.

That's funny. The only time I've witnessed scope eye was a guy shooting a 7mm mag.
