How much should it cost to re-core a 4 row OEM radiator (1972)? I am getting a price of $450. That sounds high to me. Thanks.

I bought a new one for a lot less than that.

Yep, a new one can be had for much less. I would not re-core this one for $450, but before I run it around town for more quotes I want to know if the $450 price is close to what someone should expect to pay.

I was quoted almost 600 to do mine a few years ago i just got an all aluminum one

I have had one done over a year ago it was about 430 bucks. So not a bad price. Deal with mine was an industrial grade forklift core, its thicker material by a couple of thousandths.

The cores I am speaking of come out of Canada.

I had a 2 core turned into a 3 core with restrictors for about $350, that's Canadian dollars though. I think $400 US is a little high, even for a 4 core.

I would recommend recoring to anyone thinking about buying new.

I was quoted between $350 and $375 to recore a two row core a while back. $450 may not be that far out of line for a four row core.

I just bought a new 4 core copper/brass radiator for $397.30 with all new brackets and pads from LMC including shipping for my 69 Blazer restoration. It is a nice looking stock unit. I had a stock 3 core that would have undoubtedly needed to be worked on. Did the same when I restored two other trucks and my GTO's. I like new and stock appearance, especially with the cooling system - new hoses, water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, and a good shroud.

mine was recored cost was $538.00 4 row core Michigan

It's expensive because there are limited suppliers for the cores now. What ever you do don't throw that 4 row away. The tanks are worth money. Someone will need them for restoration at some point. They don't reproduce them.

Now you didn't. They either rodded out the original cores, or they recored it.

I had found a place in California who still built the factory Harrison radiators With me living in Alaska and moving to Reno Nevada , I opted to not spend the $350.00 for a recore and $425.00 for some knock off cheepo , I went to this company in California and for a Desert 4 core radiator with automatic transmission fittings delivered to me here in Reno was under $400.00. Just had to round up some big block upper radiator brackets and I was golden. The truck runs all day long at 190.

I think I paid about $100 about five years ago to have a radiator guy build a two row with proper tanks and a good core (see thread here).

Radiator shops are dying out though....
