Window cranks

I guess I'm in a cranky mood, sorry for the disposition and the pun. I took the old original window cranks off, which are pitted and missing the knob on the end. I went to Napa and bought new cranks. They look the same. I put them on, and they felt so wobbly and had a crappy fit and feel. They were fully engaged and the pin was holding them OK, but they were just crap. I took them off and immediately threw them away, and put the originals back on.

I am accustomed to new items being high quality from Napa, but I was surprised and disappointed this time. I should have taken them back, but I was frustrated and in a cranky mood, so I didn't. Do window cranks need to be NOS or come from a Chevy dealer to fit well? You see my truck in my profile picture/avatar, it is not fancied up, it is just a rusty old 69 CST/10, so I don't care if handles I get are shiny or perfect. I just need them to be functional. O'Reilly's and several other auto parts stores are much closer to me than the Chevy dealer, but I will make that journey if it's worth it for this part. Just wondering.

Re: Window cranks

You could always wind up getting used ones. Pun intended

Re: Window cranks

Do you have a junkyard near you? If so, GM full size vans without power windows up to the 90s (I think) have cranks that look the same as the 68-72 trucks.

Re: Window cranks

That's true! All the way up to the body change. There are some N.O.S. ones on the parts bard...for big money! Used will fill the bill.

Re: Window cranks

You have discovered the poor quality of a lot of these aftermarket parts. I have tried those replacement handles on several different cars and trucks, and had the same results you did. They are junk. Try to find some original ones.

Thanks very much for your input, folks. I will ponder on it and decide what to do.
