Marvel Mystery Oil....users?

Anyone ever used Marvel Mystery Oil in their engine?....to any results good or bad or?
Oil change stuff? or dumped in the fuel? or?

Just curious......having heard a lot of positive stuff about this mystery stuff, whatever it is.

I freed up a stuck lifter in my 64 impala SS with it.

I used in a motor that had set for years and the rings were stuck. It smoke terribly even after running a total of six hours and a few sets kf spark plugs. I put in and ran it about an hour and it quit smoking and doesn't smoke still.

I use it in a motor that has sat for awhile (like my LS1) pour some in the cylinders and move the motor side to side on the stand.....rotate the crank by hand a few times occasionally.......keeps everything lubed and loose...ready to "wire up and fire up"

I used a quart in a 79 350 Chevy that had a tapping sound when it ran. The sound quieted down to nothing after a few seconds and never returned. Just be sure you removed a quart of oil if you add a quart of mystery oil

It's also a good lubricant for air tools. I like it for engines that have been sitting too.

Quieted a noisy lifter in my dad's truck while we were on the road a few years back. Hasn't made a noise since.

MMO is legit! I pour it in a day or two before I change my oil, it really cleans an engine out. I also use it about every other tank of gas, both in my '05 GMC and my '65 Bel Air. I use Marvel Air Tool Oil also. Naptha is the active ingredient if I'm not mistaken.

I use Seafoam for my newer cars, MMO for the old stuff. My 70 c10 have been sitting for 15 years; I squirted some MMO in the cylinders and poured it over the valvetrain. Fired right up without issue.

I usually pour a little down the carb on my vehicles at a fast idle then shut them off when I pack them away for the winter. It lubes all the cylinder's and they always fire right up in the spring.

Aren't you supposed to change the oil after running it for awhile with the mystery oil? It should thin out the oil a good bit, depending on how much you put in there.

Interesting stuff guys.....so it seems everyone puts it in their crankcase, or maybe down their carb for storage.
Anyone pour it into their gas tank and use it that way?
Is it a good product for newer engines?

I've got a couple of quarts of this stuff last year and I'm keen to try it out.

I have heard around these parts that you run the possibility of flattening a cam if used improperly.

If anyone has some clarification I would love to hear it.

its NOT approved by the FAA for aircraft engines.

they did an analysis of it and determined that it was recycles waste oil, vegetable oil and transmission fluid.

That's the mystery part! You never know what you are getting.

Seriously though, I remember hearing about MMO in the 70's but never really tried it.

It's nothing new and a great product no matter what FAA says...unless we're talking airplanes. Only know great stories and no bad ones. My friend had a mower seize up tight, poured MMO in crankcase, and plug hole, let it sit, freed it up and used mower for years. I wouldn't do that with an airplane, though. I believe it has castor oil in it and I know that is good for cutting the crap and freeing things up in an engine from personal experience with using Castrol. Also know an old hot rod brakes expert (all drum) who uses ATF and acetone mix on ceases brake lines with great success. Never buys PB, Creep, Kroil, Liquid Wrench, etc. All that stuff is mystery ingredients and he says the two he uses are all you need.

I use it every day on both engines i build and engines I work on out in the oil and gas fields.
Over time our engines develop a lot of carbon from the well gas they run on. Marvel does wonders in cutting the carbon and keepin everything running smooth. I’ve seen some of our old Waukeshas’ seize up tight with carbon, squirt a little marvel in the plug holes and let it set for a couple hours. Come back work it back and forth a bit and let it eat. I’ve used it in the fuel system before too in my old trucks and does help keep them running smooth.

it was originally designed for the engines and fuels used in the engines of Yesteryear . the active ingredient is standard solvent (white spirits) which aide in the softening of lead and carbon deposits , our old engines are no where near as efficient as those of today . we changed the oil every couple thousand miles (or sooner) along with the plugs and filters . Its basically a high detergent used to clean the inside of your engine of contaminants from the high lead based fuels and ash/carbon content in the oils along with the varnishes in the fuel system and those produced in your transmission . Yes it works if your dillegent in changing your filters and fluids based on the OLD recommendations from GM .Remember these old stock engines where considered tired at 50,000 miles and worn out at anything near 100,000 miles . First the valve guides would go and then the trans followed by the rings and bottom end . the old fix was to use straight 30 weight oil NON DETERGENT oil and just let the engine clog up until it died .Then rebuild or replace it . It's one of the reasons that so many guys find their trucks with odometer readings in the 60-75,000 mile ranges with a running smoking engine . We're dealing with 50 year old technology here .

Change your filters and fluids based on the recomended schedule from GM for your model truck ,Back then it was 3,000 miles or sooner based on work load .

Yes it works on air cooled piston general aviation engines to remove lead deposits ( from running 100 LL-low lead fuel) on the valves that would hinder sealing and thus lower compression levels , It's a fix used by general aviation to pull the upper plugs on a low compression engine ( 2 plugs per cylinder 1 upper and 1 lower ) and add the marvel mystery oil to set over-nite , the next day they would remove the lower plug and drain the mystery oil , then using a dead blow hammer they would SMACK the end of the valve stem forcing it open to allow the valve springs to slam the valve closed again thus breaking any lead deposits off the valve seat which resulted in a better sealing cylinder and raising the compression back to allowable continued use parameters for general aviation standards rather than pulling the cylinders and sending them out to be rebuilt . The FAA doesn't look fondly on the procedure being as it's a cheap repair rather than an approved fix by rebuilding .a single can of marvel mystery oil found in a commercial aviation maintenance hanger could cost them their flight repair license and fines .

If it's stuck, give MMO a try. If MMO doesn't unstick it you're going to end up tearing it down anyway.

I added a 1/2 quart of it yesterday to top up the crankcase.
....we'll see if there is any apparent difference.
Right now the truck is running great, so it doesn't really have a lot of 'work' to do....but, by the sounds of it.... it can't hurt.

I've been using it for years in everything from the 49' 8N Ford tractor (only Ford allowed on the property) to my newest vehicle on the property, a 91 Jeep Cherokee with over 600K on the clock. I just freed up a 68 350 that had been sitting for ten years with my MMO elixir, one part each acetone, trans fluid, and Marvels Mystery Oil...It's great on pancakes too!

I just came in the house from putting a quart into a '71 GMC 1500 with a 402 in it and a valvetrain clatter. Cam going flat? Out of adjustment? Stuck lifter? I figured those were the choices. Ran it for about 20 minutes in the drive way doing a good old fashioned "rev-tune" and sure enough, it quietened down a BUNCH. Will do this several more times then an oil and filter change and will run it!
