vortec motor

trying to find out if any one still kept the serpentine pulleys on this 96 thru 99 engines. I am asking since the water pump has extra outlets that i wont need and wondering if you are able to block those off or even use a different water pump?

Re: vortec motor

i have 88-95 full serp setup ( aluminum brackets ) no bolt on problems minus remake / modify the support brace rod to intake off the tensioner position .

i used a 88-95 water pump and then top 3/4" pipe water port got a hose to the intake just below the t-stat on my edelbrock intake . just like a bbc has a bypass hose . reason for bypass hose is in the 2nd pic . some say you need to tap the hole in the water pump deep and put in a flush mount plug and have it sit just below the surface . but only if your black dosn't have the flat spot on the area for the gasket to seal it off .

other than that she is running and working just fine after 6k+ miles now .

Re: vortec motor

NOPE thats std spin pump for v-belt and has extra lower boss for p/s bracket to bolt on .

if serp belt you need the reverse spin for serp belt years .

and you need to have a bypass hose or the cooling system can girggle and bubble and make a coolant smell when running each time the t-stat opens . i had this problem until i did the bypass hose .
