eBay prices aren't significantly higher than the group buy price when shipping is figured in. Yet everyone (including me) was waiting with bated breath for the revised rims to come out, under the apparent misconception that they would actually fix the fitment issue. It was only when the -3 was about to be released into the wild that all of a sudden people were clamoring to order and I put together the group buy. If people were really hot for rims that weren't going to fit right, they could have ordered six months ago and never missed the little bit of extra money they could have saved through this GB.

It appears the grinding now is very minimal and something that most anyone with a cheap grinder could accomplish. Before it looked to be something you had to take to a machine shop to have a good amount of material removed.

That being said, BOSS really shot themselves in the foot with this one. The good news is it will keep the number of trucks running these down somewhat so you won't have as many people with the same rims....

Re: Boss 338 Wheels **GROUP BUY**

I am assumming I would need to get my new front rotors cut for the bore size like all the others, no?

I was also told by a local dealer the offset/bs is wrong for my truck and I would need some large spacers(especially in the rear) that wouldn't be smart to install...

Are they wrong?

They're not entirely wrong. The rear offset (at least in 20x10) is wrong for the rear by about an inch and will require a spacer (more about that below). The front is fine (once you cut down the hub or use a small spacer).

There's nothing wrong with an adapter-style spacer in the rear, unless maybe you're putting down 800 ft-lb of torque and launching like a maniac. For a daily driver there's nothing wrong with a good bolt-on spacer (such as this set that I recently purchased on eBay).

Bottom line is if you want these rims, you'll have to use spacers in the rear and work some kind of magic up front. They obviously weren't designed for our trucks, but making them work isn't difficult or dangerous.

Re: Boss 338 Wheels **GROUP BUY**

that kind of stinks..... I was all happy cuz I have the 1" rotor so I was thinking I was going to get away from doing anything to make the wheels fit,, but now that you mention that backspacing for the rear 20x10, I am pissed lol..... I order a 20x10 for the rear with 295/40 tire now the you guys mention the need for a spacer , do yo think I could go up to the 305/40 tire ? should fit with the spacer.... what do you guys thinkkk sorryy for being off topic a little
\\

edit" but now that I think about it those rear tires are 20x10 with a backspacing for 6.5 and a offset of +20 mm which will offset the 6.5 backspacing down to something just above the 5.5 mark... ? any body? but then again I am probably wrong.,....

than again.. I read about the adapter/spacer no big deal.. just thinking out loud...

I don't think you understand the difference between backspacing and offset. There's a good discussion here, but in a nutshell offset is how far the mounting surface is from the wheel's center line and backspacing is how far the mounting surface is from the inside lip of the wheel. The offset doesn't change the backspacing -- the two are fixed figures that are related but not in the way you're thinking.

Re: Boss 338 Wheels **GROUP BUY**

So now your saying that if you are running the 1.25 rotors, you have to grind the rotor down or use a spacer AND you'll have to use a spacer in the back as well? Or is the rear spacer only if you don't have room for the larger tire. I have mini tubs in the back, so I am guessing it will be fine. The rear spacer is so that the larger tire will fit in the wheel well, not anything having to do with the hub bore size, correct?

Post #477 will answer your question about needing a spacer on the rear.

That's exactly what I'm saying about the front. That was a disappointment given how long we waited for the rims to be revised. However, the need for a rear spacer is nothing new. I'm surprised that anyone is still surprised by this. Simply looking at the offset should tell you that.

Re: Boss 338 Wheels **GROUP BUY**

Here is some pics of the front issues. The rotor is only 2mm to big, but I agree that a grinder would fix the issue pretty easy. I haven't done mine yet, but I don't think that it will be a big deal. I wonder too who was in charge of re-designing these. Did they ever try one of these on a rotor? It would of been easy for them to machine 2mm more on the wheel but oh well, its done now. Has anyone noticed that there has been over 15,000 views of this thread? Pretty cool. Let me know if anyone else needs any pics of anything.

Check with Sublvr72. Out of curiosity, what size and finish did you order?

So with the new wheels having the same issue, does it make any differnce whether I order the -2AA version in 18" or wait for the -3AA version in the 18" to be made?

Depends. I don't know of anyone who has compared the two side by side to measure the hub bore from top to bottom. What I gather from reading elsewhere is that the bore changed in places, but not enough at the "front" side where the interference was an issue on our trucks. My impression is that the required clearancing of the hub is considerably less than previously, but both revisions will require work. It's only an issue up front, so if you don't mind taking a little more material off the front hub and want the wheels right away, -2 is the way to go. If you aren't in a hurry, personally I'd wait for the -3 and not need to remove as much material from the hub. All depends on your needs.

If you look a few pages back, you will see that black fronts are on back order.

Re: Boss 338 Wheels **GROUP BUY**

I finally got my wheels. I was really starting to stress without any tracking numbers and all that. You can get an immediate tracking number when you buy something off Ebay, so I thought that was a little strange. I ordered them on 4/10. Then when you order you were supposed to select Fed Ex for shipping, and then when they showed up they were on a UPS truck. Anyways they are beautiful!!!!!!! I'm glad I did it, thank you to the guys that did all this for us. Scott

Glad you got 'em. You might have noticed this isn't eBay and Sublvr72 had AEW drop-ship the wheels to all of us, so he really didn't have good access to tracking info, nor could he control which carrier was used. Hate to see people too worried -- the very worst case scenario is that you have to call your credit card company and tell them you didn't get your merchandise and they reverse the charge. Moot point now, but no need for anyone to worry.
