Headers

My intake on my straight 6 cylinder 292
is in bad shape. Can I replace them with
any kind of headers?

Re: Headers

I like the 12-bolt Tom Cast manifolds better than headers. Mine has aftermarket manifold (Offenhauser with 500 Edelbrock), but they work just fine with the factory intake.

I just got done putting my truck together, I have cast iron headers, aluminum intake with a 550 Holley, with a 200-4R. I've only driven it to the corner and back, but believe I'm really going to like it.

Does it also work with the factory carburettor?
I have a nice Rochester monojet carb.

No mine started life as an integrated head model with the weird 2bbl. Since my 250's head was warped I went to old style head and swapped in the speed stuff with the rebuild. I know someone who has the factory style intake with the 12bolt manifolds and he loves it.

If you want to keep the monojet see if you can find a good factory intake. Far as I know the 230, 250 and 292 intakes are interchangeable.

My truck has the Langstons headers/manifolds and the offenhauser intake, but running a Holley which I turned sideways. I could have just as easily installed the original intake and carb. I did just that with another set on my 51 Chevrolet, has duals and the original intake and carb on it. I'll see if I can find a picture of it. Can't see to well because of the PS setup and the oil filter on the old 235. I have a nice manifold, but hopefully you can find one locally.
