Thanks!

The shot in 104 was in 2010 before I started the total restoration. I finished the project in Sept, 2013.

My painter threatened to stop working on my truck unless I put new wood in and abandoned the idea of reusing the original stuff. Mar-K to the rescue!

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......

From the looks of all these nicely done wood beds, it looks as if I've got my work cut out for me. Lucky for me thou I have a neighbor that has a wood shop & he has agreed to do all the wood planks for me for a case of beer. I'm hoping this is the budget way to go about getting my wood bed done is to buy the wood locally at Lowes & get the bed strips & bolts from classicparts.com. I'll post a follow-up once it's complete.

Texjake, thank you for leading me to this post.

As far as ordering your strips and bolts, you are right on the money. The wood on the other hand, Unless you want to use pine (not recommended) Lowes/homedepot will be on of the most expensive places to get wood from. They sell a 1x8x8 of oak for $40 bucks (enough to do one, maybe two strips depending on the strips you cut). I'm a wood worker by supplemental income. I don't EVER buy anything other than pine from the big box stores. Too pricy. In Dallas we have a store called Wood World. http://www.woodworldtx.com great people. If you are in the Dallas area, stop in and pick up some lumber there. All shapes, sizes, and types of wood. You could probably have it shipped, but that would kill you.

You can also look for a local woodworking business in the Lubbock area, if I'm doing big jobs, I use a company called Central Hardwood out of Dallas as well. They are a retailer for hardwood floor company's and cabinet makers, but they do sell to the little guys as well. You can get the wood even cheaper if you buy it rough, but I wouldn't suggest it if you friend doesn't have a planer. He would want more than a case of beer.

I searched for a few places near you. They may be able to help you out.
http://www.acaciahardwoods.net (Try these guys first)
http://www.gaydonlumberlubbocktx.com

When you go to order your materials, they are going to want to know board footage. It's kind of funky way of measuring wood, but once you get it, you are good. Here is a good writeup on how it works.
http://woodworking.about.com/od/gett...eBoardFeet.htm

I found this thread once, as I'll be cutting my own bed wood strips some time. GREAT info on strip size and grove dimensions.

That wood looks like it has a " story " behind it . . .

. . . what kind of wood and what stain was used ?

( It's real hard to find wood with that much grain in it . . .
. . . we looked through three shipments before we found mine - yours is BETTER !!! )

If you are crafty with wood working, you can make the slats yourself. Go to a wood working supply store. They will let you pick your own pieces. You can find some really pretty figure if you can play the waiting game.

Check this thread to see all the wood measurements. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=510304

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......

Anyone know if (or used) larch/tamarack is useable for a bed re-do? Locally, an old, large wooden warehouse constructed of old growth larch is being dismantled and the wood sold off. Wondering if I should stash some planks for use in a future bed floor rebuild.

Thanks Steve,
Its Oak, and actually I originally was going to go with a black stain finish, as I sanded between coats I discovered that I could get the grain to realy stand out by a little more sanding. I liked the look so I then put on the clear. Im pretty happy with it.
