wheel offset advice?

67 c10. I have the six bolt axels. It currently has some 24"s that I hate. Looking for a combo that would not break the bank.

I'm thinking 17 x 8 or so (flexible). I would like something that more or less fills the wheel wells without, of course, rubbing.

Could someone recommend a combo, I don't know what offset I should look for or the tire height (size). And what about center hole size?

here is a pic of the truck. After I put on the wheels, I plan to lower the rear until it's even with the front. I like wide tires, whatever will fit without rubbing.

any advice appreciated.

Re: wheel offset advice?

Those 24" wheels/tires could be worth some $$ to somebody. If they are fairly fresh, you may be able to trade them for something more to your liking.

If Miami is anything like Dallas, there are tons of "used" tire/wheel dealers that would love to exchange a 17/18" set for your 24s!

A recent thread on here had a member looking for temporary while/tire set during his build. He was able to get a set of 4 for like 100 bucks on CL. YMMV

Re: wheel offset advice?

Legend 6 spoke wheels. Summit Racing has them for about $140 each. 17x8 with 4.5" backspace front, 17x9 5" bs rear. 235 55 17 and 275 55 17 respectively.

Re: wheel offset advice?

I have the following which fits perfectly on a 2WD C20:

265/75/16 on 16x8 w/4" backspace on the front
305/70/16 on 16x10 w/5" backspace on the rear

I know that's a little different wheel size from what you're looking for but you can still calculate equivalent width/diameter dimensions with a typical calculator like this:

https://tiresize.com/calculator/

By the way, "Mike C" was one of the guys who helped me out when I was trying to figure wheel/tire sizes for my truck - thanks, man.

Re: wheel offset advice?

Awesome! Glad I could help. I'm glad you mention your combo it made me re-think my original statement. Those offsets I said would be perfect for a disc truck, but they have a slightly wider track so a 4" front and 4.5" rear on the 8 and 9 wide combo might be better.

But OP, this takes us back to disc brakes. You should do the disc conversion if you are going to make this a daily driver IMO. The drums just can't make up for the inadequate driving skills of the others on the road....

Re: wheel offset advice?

Thanx for the advice. I will try to sell the 24's, but they are pitted and the treads don't match.

@713quarter - those look really big. I plan to lower my rear some, look great on your truck, but perhaps too big for mine?

@ Mike - I really like the legend 6 spoke. Would these fit my hub and lugs without modification? I'm searching and finding many people have to widen holes on different wheels to get them to work. The tire sizes you mentioned above, would those be big enough to "fill" my wheel wells? I don't like the small tire, big well look.

And I agree, disk is on the list down the line, but I need to drive this truck, been sitting too long while I put the new motor in. I've had old jeeps all my life and I'm quite comfortable with drum brakes, but like you said, it's the other drivers...

If these are a direct - no modification rim, we may have a winner. Thanx

Re: wheel offset advice?

Mike, is this the rim?

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/v...3gm0/overview/

Under reviews, I saw this, makes me worry:
I had to send them back because they wouldn't fit my 67 Chevy c10 6 lug with drum brakes. It was the center bore that was too small on the Wheel.

I believe mine are about is big as you could possibly go on the front AND the back.

However, mine has leaf springs and I don't know for sure if it was factory equipment but they look even more beefed up for hauling a camper, as that is what this truck spent most of its life doing before I bought it.

A C10 with different rear suspension might/most likely be a different story.

It took me a while to finally decide on my wheel/tire combo but thanks to the good folks on here, tire calculator apps like that one I posted and taking the wheels off and taking lots of measurements, I believe I got it just right

Good luck with yours and post pics!

Re: wheel offset advice?

I have a '52 M38 A1 with an 11" drum Dana 30 swapped in, and that is great for that app. But my experience with the exact same brake on a 1000+ pound truck is they need an upgrade...

I THINK the Legend wheels have a big enough pilot to fit the early trucks, but any wheel that fits a 6 lug 4x4 solid axle Chevy will work.

Here's mine so you can judge. Front tires 27" tall and rear 29"

EDIT: But the 5 spoke wheels fit perfect with the ECE conversion disc kit! 2 1/2" spindle and 2" spring in the front with DJM rear flip for 7" drop.

Re: wheel offset advice?

Your truck looks beautiful, and I really like the rims. I also found those rims in my LMC catalog. If it weren't for the review on summit where the guy said he had a 67 c10 with drum brakes and they would not fit...

I wish someone here with my exact setup would see this thread. I believe your solution will PROBABLY work. I'm going to get the size tires you have for sure. I plan to leave the front where it is and drop the back 2 inches.

Re: wheel offset advice?

That is the wheel and based on that review, it might not. I wouldn't order on the web, I would call Summit and talk to a tech.

Re: wheel offset advice?

Does anyone know the bore size on the drums?

Called Summitt tech line and they told me that as long as the drum is smaller than the wheel (which is 3.429 in this case) that I'm good.

But aren't these vehicles hub centric?

YMMV for sure. I see folk driving around in large, mid 90's sedans with enormous wheels around here often enough. I bet the "shoes" cost more than the car in some cases!

That made no sense.

If a rim fits a 60-66 c10, will it also fit a 67?

Yes. And a 68-70. And a 67-87 1/2 ton 6 lug 4x4.
