Was talking with a buddy at work today and he said he THOUGHT there was a factory clock available that would mount in the tach location. Anything to this? I've never heard it mentioned before.

Not from the factory to my knowledge, but I've seen them put in there. A Pontiac Rally clock from a 69-72 GTO, Lemans, Tempest amd Grand Prix fits almost perfectly and looks a lot like the other gauges. I seen one of those put in a '70, and looked pretty nice.

I've seen literature that shows a dealer-installed clock but I thought it went into the air pressure/vacuum gage spot to the left of the oil pressure gage? I've never seen an actual one in a cluster though.

I've only seen gauge sets with the clock placed in the vacuum gauge slot... Though I have never seen a factory set up this way.

Some of the guys have installed clocks in the empty location on the dash and they look really good.

Here is a picture of a clock that was installed some time ago. I don't remember who did it though.

One long winter evening a few years ago I played around with a spare 1971 Monte Carlo cluster I'm hanging on to.

The speedo fits in the speedo slot. If you rub the numbers off your truck plastic, it would look factory - other than the PRNDL1L2 window cut in the speedo. I'm guessing that a factory 4-speed Monte doesn't have this cut-out so I'm sure there is a speedo floating around from a Chevelle or Monte that would fool most people. Oh and the Monte speedo reads 120 so you speed freaks can get 20 more mph of readout.

I didn't snap any pictures but the clock did fit in the tach hole.

I finally went with an 80s quartz clock out of a Sub and put it in the vac hole. But the clock is probably going to go as I have a clock in my radio and I would like another gauge there. It is REALLY accurate for a factory clock. I'm used to my Monte and Chevelle factory clocks that keep time for about an hour or so. But with the clock in the radio that one is no longer needed.

...besides, if you have a clock in your truck, one on your wrist and another on your cell phone....how can you tell which one is right??? We never know what time it actually is, if we have more than one clock.

Good point, there ChevLoRay. I've gotten used to not wearing a wristwatch, (work in a machine shop), and my pocket watch is a pain to get out while I'm driving. Guess I'll have to look around and see what I can find.

There was someone from one of dealerships in Edmonton ( in the early seventies ) that was installing them into the glove box and they looked pretty good, I think my father inlaw has one stashed in his garage somewhere.
