Suburban body part questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am going to start collecting body parts for this upcoming winter's paint project.

-Drivers and passenger doors, who makes the best fitting ones?
-The previous owner really hacked up the rear quarter panels and my body guy suggest trying to find some complete units. PO used proper patch panels above wheel wells and cut to large then just Bondo the gaps. Has anyone tried using long or short bedside to repair?
- Also looking for rear sill section for hatch and tailgate, guessing knowbody makes a repop

Contact Wes, board member name Classic Heartbeat. Hes a board vendor here with a stellar reputation. He carries a lot of Suburban parts and will always steer you in the right direction even if its for something he doesn't carry.

The doors for the Suburban are only made by 1 manufacturer Tri-Plus so no matter who you buy from they'll all be made by Tri-Plus. We carry the complete Suburban lower rear quarters plus every other patch panel made for them on our patch panel page located here

The Suburban rear sill is not reproduced so you'll need to repair yours, find used or have 1 fabricated by a good metal shop.

Has anyone tried using truck bedsides to repair rear quarters? I know the tailight housing is different but are there any other differences? Long bedsides should be easier to find then suburban stuff

Try to use a single piece for the entire rear wheel well. The patch panels are great till you discover that the concave bead on the edge of the wheel lip is DIFFERENT for every patch panel. The upper panel bead doesn't match the lower front patch or the lower rear patch. Ask me how I know! Maybe it would be better to piece in a pickup bed panel so you have then entirety of the wheel well from one panel.

Swapping the window frames is a very doable option, they are easy to swap. As far as sill plates look in the used parts section for part outs and get what you need.

Regarding your second question about bedside differences....the longbed bedside has a different wheel arch than every other model. In other words, Blazers, Suburbans, and shortbed have the same wheel arch. Here are two threads I found discussing the difference.

Thanks for the reply, I am going to keep my eyes open for a suburban quarter. Not in a huge rush as I want to tackle the repair this winter
