Thanks man, I didn't even think about the cable. I put a new cable in it a couple years ago, and the old speedo worked great, but the odometer roll stopped spinning and it chewed up some of the plastic gears the turn the odo. I pulled the odometer roll out so the speedo would still work.

On this new speedo, when I got it, I noticed that the end of the old speedo had broken off inside where the cable goes in. I though I got all the broken stuff out, but I'm not certain.
I think what I'm going to try is to put the odometer roll from the new speedo into the old speedo and see if that works

Re: Frankentruck

Saturday morning, I jumped in the rust bucket and drove up to the Chattahoochee National Forest to see my buddy get married. On the way up, the broken speedo bothered me so much that I just unplugged the speedo cable at the cluster. Once I got back home, I swapped back to the original speedo and put the odometer roll from the new cluster in it. Drove it about 2 miles just to have the odometer roll stop spinning again. That's twice now, and unfortunately, the 64-66 odometer rolls are larger than the 60-63s. I really want a working odometer, but I don't want to spend over 100 bucks for a new speedometer when my speedo works just fine without a stuck odometer roll.

It was pretty fun givin' her the beans on some dirt roads

I have been whenever I've been home, but I won't be able to drive her again until October 11th. That will be the next time I go back home, and that weekend I'll bring her back to Milledgeville as my daily driver for a little bit. The Deep Roots Festival is October 26th, and part of the festival is a car show, so I'll have the truck in the show just to crust up the joint

I messed around with the original speedo, but found out I had some plastic gears that were worn out. I just bought a new one and now my '61 speedo works good.

I also have worn out plastic gears in both speedos, but rather than spending over a hundred dollars for a new one, I'm going to be sending out the best speedo I have to Tom Garris (TBONE1964) for him to repair the odometer. My speedo works great without the odometer, so it makes sense to have Tom repair the odometer for a much better price than buying a new one. Also, I'm a "broke college student" so I try to be frugal when I can

That's the current plan! Continue to drive her until parts start falling off, then I'll start the rust repair

Re: Frankentruck

If you look back in the thread, I had picked up an Igloo Little Kool Rest to add some cup holders and the ability to keep mom's cooking cold on my trips back to college. Last week, I found the big brother. I got an Igloo Kool Rest off of Facebook Marketplace for a great deal. I would prefer a tan one, but I just couldn't pass this one up when I found it

Christian,

I just went through your entire post here and i just want to say "Thank you!" Thank you for striving to help others, thank you for your dedication to Christ. It was just awesome to read about all the other fellow Christians on here. May God use you to the most in your daily walk with him, God Bless my Friend.

Ok, to the truck. Nice ride there sir. It is coming along and it has been great reading on your process and how you got to where you are. I cannot wait to read updates.

Thanks for checking in! Always great to see that there's other Christian truck guys on here. There won't be a whole lot of updates throughout the school year as I don't always have the truck with me at school, but I'll be bringing it down to school in 3 weeks, so I'll have a few more updates then

Re: Frankentruck

Frankentruck has just been sitting back at home. This weekend is our fall break, so I'll be going back home and bringing her back to Milly with me.

The Deep Roots Festival is on the 26th of October this year, so of course I'll be hanging out downtown all day with Frankentruck and all the other cars.

Can't wait to be driving her again

Re: Frankentruck

Got home today for fall break, and before I walked into the house, I jumped in the truck to see if she would awaken from her month long slumber. Happy to report that after turning over enough to build oil pressure and turn the dummy light off, gas finally got back to the carb and she fired right up. I wiped the cobwebs off and got started on the tasks I needed to get done.

First up was to pull the cluster and swap speedos again so that I can send off my best one to Tom and have it rebuilt. I'll send that out on Monday once I get back to Milledgeville. I put the junky one back in so that I can at least have the cluster look complete even though it doesn't work

After that, I turned my attention to fixing the lights on my tach. The lights went out over a year ago, but I finally took it apart to see if I could make it work again. The right LED would only work if it was pressed on, so I think something broke inside the little LED. I ended up trying to solder the attachment joints and that didn't make it work. What's the next best thing? Run some solder to jump the busted LED and boom, one side works again. I only need it to light up to 5k anyways because once I'm past that, I'll start floating valves.

When I put the new under dash wiring harness in a few years ago, I never hooked the trailer brake controller back up. Turns out it was real simple to do, so I hooked it back up and I think it still works. I don't have a trailer with brakes to test it out on though.

Once I get back to Milledgeville, I'll give her a much needed bath

Re: Frankentruck

Saturday was the Deep Roots car show in downtown Milledgeville, so of course Frankentruck had to show out

The 71 Ford next to me has the Ford version of the 3 speed overdrive trans. Pretty neat to see some other trucks with that transmission in it.

It was a great time being able to hang out with Jhrusk and get some inspiration from his new build for mine. Frankentruck might get a couple inches chopped out by next summer

If your truck is back on the road by next year, bring it on up!

Re: Frankentruck

Got my speedo back from Classic Gauge and Cluster today! Tom went above and beyond to restore my speedo and odometer to working condition at a great price that any college student can afford.

Tom replaced the old odometer roll that had stuck with a good, working one, replaced the gears inside the odometer that were chewed up, repainted the speedo needle, and checked to ensure the speedo was calibrated correctly. He also repainted the back of it to make it all look nice.

Check out Classic Gauge and Cluster on Facebook or TBONE1964 on here for all your cluster repair and restoration needs. Tom does great work, and I'm stoked with how it turned out.

I haven't had a working odometer in Frankentruck for years
It's so nice to have the entire cluster back to working condition.

Glad you got it working Christian!

The speedo in my 65 has been acting up sometimes so it looks like I'm going to be having my own fun with speedometers sometime soon lol.

Honestly, I would just send it to Tom if I were you. He can make sure that it will work for you and can clean it up real nice if you want him to. Once I get to the point of buying another truck (after college ), first thing I'll do if I need any speedo work will be to send it to Tom
