1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

As I'm planning the Ultimate Build of my 67 several questions have come up. I am planning a half custom/half resto of the truck and I want the 67 only stuff to be correct. I could research all this and maybe a thread is buried out there somewhere but I think a thorough thread is well deserved. So tell me...What is 67 only and what was a carry over? Was the visor clips 67 only? I think I have established that the window vent wing handles were a carry over from 60-66. How about the inner door handles? Were they 67 only? Was the e-brake for 67-68 from the 60-66s? What dictated wether or not the e-brake got a cover? Or maybe the POs just left them off after doing some work and they all got them? How about the 67 only ignition switch escution? Was that 67 only? I almost got lost in diagnosis until I found out that the front running lights on a 67 extinguish when the knob is pulled completely out and the headlights come on. What about this stuff? Is there anything I havent covered? Oh yeah, 67...no side markers, Rookie info.

Oh yeah, the center rear view mirror. looking for a pic I found this thread.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=4126373

Like Geezer#99 said, I think they were early 67 but I'm still not sure if it was a carryover.

Re: 1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

I'll add this one: I'm pretty sure 68 didn't have the black wrinkle finish with aluminum/silver trim and its a 67 only item. Mine came with it but it was painted over. I wanna redo it but I'm not sure how since I wanna keep the inside OG because its the correct color and the SPID is intact and semi-legible. The closest wrinkle finish I can find has to be baked and I'm sure the SPID wont survive. Anyone know what is a close match to the aluminum/silver color? I ripped the pic from an old ad Tooter had. Sorry Tooter! I'm sure you don't care but sorry anyhow!

Re: 1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

That is an original one year only mirror

The ignition switch bezel and spacer were 67 only, spacer is not reproduced! The hole in the dash is smaller than 68+ so those will not fit.
(I have read that there were complaints about the tiny hole for fat fingered folks.)

67 did not have an accessory position

67 only tailgate, yeah thats right there are actually 3 different fleetside gates

vent window (glass) one year 67 only

vent wondow knob is a carry over from 60-66

67 only interior door handles

bench seats were in 2 year intervals, seat brackets under the bench as well as upholestry design. "buddy buckets" were 67-68 only, 69 up had separate buckets seats and console where buddy buckets were one assembly on a bench like frame.

There is much more, let me rattle my brain and get some more out

the arm and arm stop on top of the glove box lid is 67 only as well. 68-72 use a bumper stop and 67 uses a rubber sleve that slides over the arm.

Re: 1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

Dash bezel 67-68 only, They had a hole for the choke on the upper right so the lights and wipers were stacked on the left.

The silver color on the glove box is "argent silver" I beleive tim linked the gm paint code in another thread I can find if you want but I would imagine maybe it is the same "argent siler" as used on rally wheels.

Ditzer paint number 8568 "argent silver"

Re: 1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

Thank you for chiming in! I seem to remember that one of the guys said that the tail gate had a verticle bubble (bulge?) that ran along the outer edges of the gate. Were the knobs the ones with the silver insets? I just sold a 68 that had those knobs so I thought it may be a 67-68 Custom thing. The bench thing was always kinda ambiguous to me because everyone wants buckets and I haven't seen much talk of the bench differences. I think that the earlier ones flipped forward and the later ones were fixed. The later benches also had the seat back upholstery covering up the pivot point of the seat back.

Re: 1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

Now we are getting somewhere!! As custom as I'd like to make my truck I wanna keep all the 67 only stuff in the resto part of it. Thanks Chewy for that added info. i'll be sure to keep that. I've heard the term Argent Silver 100 times but never associated it with the trim.
Now that you mention it, Dan. I thought the stacked headlight/wiper cluster bezel was a 67 only item. I plan on keeping the stacked theme but I bought a nice choke delete and a 7 hole cluster. I think I want the tach and I want the "Choke" plaque cover instead of the bezel that had the plaque deleted too. Details, details, details...

67 knobs are different than the silver centered cst ones...
Pretty sure the rearview mirror arm is a carry-over from 66

Re: 1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

Jonathan I knew it was only a matter of time before you were here! The Old Man has some non-descript GM rear view mirror hanging from a single screw (kinda makes it hard to see behind ya!) but I did score a nice example with a good mirror. I think I got it from Tooter. I've got so many boxes of stuff around here to bolt on I forget who I got what from!

My 68 has the black wrinkle with silver trim glove box door. I wonder if spray on bedliner would be a good way to reproduce that?

Re: 1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

I looked in to getting the wrinkle finish redone on my 67 glove box door after I had it chromed. The product used they factory is no longer available and its pretty tough to duplicate. Best bet is to get a DIY wrinkle finish kit and experiment with it until you get the texture you want.

I ended up using auto-body texture spray and covering it with a satin clear. Doesn't look anything like the factory finish but is a close match to the finish found on aftermarket repop gauge bezels.

Did we mention exterior door handle with the different angle for the attachment screws? How about the reverse light lenses on fleetsides?

Dont mean to hijack thread but i used bed liner on my glove box door after having it chromed. after i painted the original gauge cluster to match you cant notice the difference at all. i recommend it.

Nope we didn't mention the outside handles. Good call! I remember something about bullseye reverse lenses. Whats the difference? Chewy you ain't high jackin. You're adding to the subject and how to get the original appearance.

Re: 1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

this is a great idea for a thread I'm in
btw chewychevy67 thats a awesome cluster!
nobody mentioned 67 only seat belts
and the power ram steering 67 only
the frame w/o power steering dimples
the doors and handles
I allway thought the wing windows were the same just differnt handles
my stepper was the first i noticed the differnt frames on them.

the 283ci
arm rests
front cross shaft u bolts I think were allcarryovers

what about bullseye lenses?

Re: 1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

Midniteblues, Thanks for the reminder on the frame dimple and the P/s. My heart sank when I was addressing my seat belt issue and learned that the "aircraft" style belts were something special. I ransacked my house looking for the belts. When I found them they were the correct and properly date belts! Shew! I was afraid I may have thrown them away! What is the difference in the vent glass? I can't go out to my truck at the moment but I know one of my handles is correct but the other isn't. I thought the handle was replaced or the truck had been broke into at one time.

Re: 1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

I'm pretty sure the vent glass and the frames around the vent glass are differnt from other years the knob goes through the metal of the frame on 67other years the knob goes through the vent glass

mine dont have any arm rests either and only one visor

what about the speedo hash marks and high beam hole isnt that differnt or are they 67-68?

small back window its kinda a carryover lol

Mine only has the driver's only visor too. No provisions for armrests either. Was the visor clip 67 only or was it a carryover? Was the passenger visor optional?

Re: 1967 Only or 60-66 Carry Over?

The vent window knob is a carry over but the glass is one year only, there is one more hole on 67 than the later. If you check LMC they list and show one for 67 and a different glass for 68 up. I have each as well as a real 67 gate and a few other oddities if you guys think pics would be helpful.

What is the bullseye deal on the reverse lights? I had no idea! I have my originals I better take a look to see if they are "original"

Good one on the ext handles I forgot that one.

I have seen some of the C40?? and larger clusters but did not know they had the choke on later years. If I remember correctly they were not notched out for the column but had a casting line where you can use as a guide to cut it for a C10-30.

Lots of good info here guys keep it coming!

I think I have one more: The frame is thicker at the front and causes problems with header clearance, I measured a friends 72 frame and it was almost a 1/4" thinner to allow more room for exhaust? or just saving material?
