anybody have info on the NP833

I have a 1969 c20 with a 307 and a sm465 for a transmission, the tranny is getting old and i was looking at getting better gas mileage as im turing it into my daily driver an later on im going to switch my motor to a 350 an would like to keep the transmission i buy for it or buy both the transmission an motor at the same time. I heard good an bad things about the NP833 an i was wondering does anybody have any information on it, what they were in, what they can withstand, how much power can they handle before breaking, how they cruse down the inerstate, basically any and everything about the transmission would be great. Does anybody have any history with them, is it good or bad an if so why?
Thanks

Re: anybody have info on the NP833

Why the new thread? You didn't like the one you started in the Eng & Trans section?

If you are looking for information you need to call it an A833 because that is what Chrysler called it. Some GM references use MY6. Also you are looking for an Overdrive version or A833 OD.
The trans held up very well behind 426 HEMI's so I don't think your 307 or a 350 is going to do much damage to it.
A search for A833 here on this forum will give results such as http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=3895102
The hump situation mentioned only half applies to you. You have the bolt in hump, but wrong hole location.

Tha A833 OD has a 5 1/8" bearing retainer. Your SM465 has a 5 1/8" bellhousing and bearing retainer. When you read about turning down the A833 OD retainer, it is because they had a bellhousing for a smaller trans. The older SM420 4spd and the GM truck 3 spd's have smaller retainers.

Do you have a cast iron bellhousing with side mounts or the later rear trans mount?

Send board member 68c15 (Todd) a Personal Message. He lives in Sioux Falls and can probably fill you in on what you need to know....
