If so, can you explain why you wanted to charge 167.89 plus tax for spark plugs only and no wires or coil on a 6 cylinder caravan? I did them myself for 56.89 and took me 27 minutes for my 12 year old and I to get it done. I just did not want to do it out in the cold. Hate working on cars in the winter. However the price for a tuneup better have more than just plugs...so......yeah about the price. WTF!!!!???

Labor rate around here is around $105 an hour for mechanical work. book labor time probably calls for an hour to change the plugs. Labor rate plus parts and tax would get you to that amount.

I guess I am behind the times. Places used to go by difficulty of the job and not by the hour. Oh well. Can't beat them all. Whether changing out the tranny or doing a tuneup, all the same rate.

Sounds about right depending on location. We charge 139.95 for a 6 cylinder tune-up at my shop. Our current rate is 95 an hour but we use menu pricing for things like that not a labor guide unless it's a difficult tune-up where intake has to come off or something.

but are plugs and wires included.....this used to be standard....as for intake coming off.....yikes would hate that vehicle...in that case....hourly is fine with me....lol....is that a Subaru?

No subarus intake don't come off when doing spark plugs, I would assume it's on some nissans

No, just plugs. Wires are extra with an added labor time as well. Mostly between .2 and .5 hours. I don't remember specifically which ones require intake to be removed. I know v8 camaros are extra because it's hard to get to the rear plugs. 5.4l f150 is like 2.5 hours plus the chance the plugs break off in the head.

pep boys also has overhead, and you get to pay for "shop supplies" in that fee also. some jobs are worth paying extra for, it's up to you decide which ones!

Most anyone who works for Pep Boys have nothing to do with pricing and wouldn't be able to answer any better than the rest of us have. Some things are like house painting. I'd rather not paint but I like paying more, so I've always done it

man....the new wires took me three minutes tops.....you would round up that much? I mean it is a 05 Dodge Caravan so perhaps it is easier than others. Plugs are relatively easy to get to. But the wind was dang cold. That was the cause of my whole stupid idea to have someone else do it. The back plugs however were somewhat different but not too hard...5/8 swivel ball extension worked good on those. I remember the Astro van having to take apart the whole interior dash(dog house). Some cars like intrepid s need a special tool for removing plastic just getting to the battery.

In this industry, people get charged for how long a job is supposed to take, not how long it actually takes.

An 05 caravan with a 3.3/3.8 calls for 1.6 hrs to replace the spark plugs

Local rates are 65-100 per hr. At $5.00 per plug, and 65 an hr, it would be 134.00 plus tax.

At 9.00 a plug and 100.00 per hr, it would be 214.00 plus tax.

That does not include anything at all with the wires.

You are closer to the lower end. It could have been more.

I just remember a full blown tuneup for years on my 72 was $78.99 plus tax. It included plugs, cap and rotor, points, and plug wires. That was from about 1997-2002. LOL batteries back then were also 25 bucks.
