Thanks for all the compliments! I plan to use a painless harness also, but my battery and fuse block is going to be relocated to the rear of the suburban, all wiring will be hidden (as best as possible). As for my A/C and heat, I will be using a Vintage Air system and all plumbing (heater lines and a/c lines) will be run between the fender and cab fresh air area, (it'll be tight, but it will be hidden). My goal is to have as few wires and lines exposed as possible, all of my lines will be custom bent stainless tubing. Thanks again. Greg

I still have alot of bodywork to do to get it completely smooth. There will be nothing on the firewall except for the throttle linkage coming out.

I havent done it yet but, my plan for the fuse box is to shave the vents and put the fuse box behind a kick panel where the vent was. if that makes any sense. That way the wires can be run out the side and be concealed inside the upper part of the fender.

Yes I am still hanging in there with it. The second firewall pic is probably at least two years old.

heres mine.. nothing different.. BUT note the pimped out paint job on the cab cart and the cab lift jig!

The complete firewall was eliminated and a new panel welded in. The firewall is now 1 1/2" further back that original.

Heres mine on my 67.I've never done anything like this before so I learned alot.I also will run my wires out the vent and thru the fenders.I'm using a heater off a forklift it will be behind the glovebox door.

I am starting the process of shaving the firewall this week and i have plans to get rid of a lot of stuff of the firewall. I was wondering since i have never done a resto/custom project before i don't want to screw myself by shaving one hole and then realizing that i needed it. I was hoping that someone would be so kind to tell me what holes you can shave and were do you relocate them. I am posting the pic of the firewall with the holes labed so we can use that. For example. In the pic there is a hole that is for the speedometer cable. When you shave it what do you have to do to get it all hooked up. Another example. The trans linkage. How are you going to hook it up if you shave the hole. If i am using a column shift do i need that trans linkage hole? There is a few holes for emergency brake and winshield wipers that i wont need so those are easy. I am planning on using the krugel underdash brakes setup so i can clean that up. I am thinking that you need to have the fuse block connector on the firewall because it has do connect to the fuse block inside the cab. Is there another location?

All you guys with an all new firewall, how do you plan on hooking everything up? Do you jut plan on drilling the holes when you need them?

On the pink truck up above, I plan on putting a brake booster back on it, I am putting an A/C bulkhead connector on the passenger side, as well as a throttle cable at the driver's side hump corner and the electrical connection will be eliminated, since I am going to use an aftermarket wiring harness. It will go through the floor board at the corner. The Fuel Injection wiring will go through the floor board just at the corner of the hump. The speedo is going to electric and there will be no cable to worry about.

That sounds just like what i am wanting done. What aftermarket wiring are you using? In post 29 of this thread CSMT68 is using a painless wiring setup but it still looks like he will have that connection on the firewall. Or am i missing something? Also that hole in the center of the firewall that is labed wiring. That is no longer going to be a hole right since you are using the aftermarket setup? Thanks for the help i am feeling like i know what holes i am going to eliminate!

The word Painless is sometimes a misnomer. Every one I deal with in this area, does not use Painless, unless it is the only thing around. I am looking at a Ron Francis kit and I am NOT going with the replacement wiring that is designed for the chevy trucks. So with that thinking, I will not have to have that big block in the firewall. I am taking my truck to a different level and building it like a streetrod, that way I can do things that the factory design limits me in doing.
